Novgorod Hotels.
Note: the prices are in US dollars, the prices for doubles are for
one room, not for one person. Hotels
in Novgorod charge Russians and foreigners the same. Hotels in
this section were personally checked by WayToRussia.Net men
Dmitri and Dan in the end of July, 2001.
On this page we list all hotels in Novgorod, they are listed
in alphabetical order.
Accommodation in Novgorod
is cheap comparing to Moscow and St.Petersburg. The prices range
from $38 US for a double room in a 3-star hotel, to just $3.5 US
a night for a bed in a triple room in dormitory. All hotels can
register your visa for the period you stay in the hotel.
On this page we list all the hotels in Novgorod, there are complete
descriptions and sometimes photos of the ones we checked.
Akron Hotel.
Price. Single
room: 500 roubles ($18 US), double room: 560 roubles ($20 US), a
double with a bedroom and a living room (two to four! people can
live there, the price stays the same): 600 roubles ($21 US), 2-room
lux 850 roubles ($29 US). Breakfast is included.
Rooms and interior.
The rooms are neat and clean: standard western
hotel interior. There is a TV, a fridge, a phone, and a bathroom
(with a bath and a shower, and toilets) in every room. It has been
renovated recently and smells like new.
In the double rooms for $20 US, there are two beds, and the administration
can install one more bed (the price will stay the same, as they
said).
In the double with a bedroom and a living room: there is a giant
double bed covered with a golden blanket... where three people can
fit easily, in the bedroom, and in the living room there is a tv,
a fridge, a phone, two armchairs and a sofa, that can be used like
a bed. The staff said that even if four people live in this room,
the price stays the same.
There are totally 89 places, 56 suits, of which there are 34 doubles,
and 22 singles. Reservations are accepted by phone and fax.
Location. Just opposite of Kremlevski Park, at the same building
as "Volkhov" hotel, in the left wing. 10-minute walk to
the railway station and around 7-minute walk to the Kremlin. There's
a 24-hour shop next to it and a cinema.
Description.
This hotel belongs to a private company ("Akron") that
has something to do with the chemistry, and was designed for the
guests of this company who come to Novgorod on business trips. However
it is opened to anybody, if there are rooms available.
When you enter the hotel, it looks a bit crappy inside, but the
closer you are to the rooms, the better it is, the halls look ok
already. The interior of the rooms surprises: very neat, clean,
nice bathrooms, large beds. The staff is quite friendly and helpful
also, and the reception speaks English. The staff said they are
continuing to invest in the hotel and improve it, the next thing
they are after is the staircases.
WayToRussia.Net
recommendation. Perhaps, it is the best price / quality
/ location hotel in Novgorod.
Address: #24 Frolovskaya Ul., Veliki Novgorod, 173007, Russia. Directions: from the railway station: walk in the direction
of the Kremlin for 7 minutes. As soon as there's a park in front
of you, you'll see a old building, the hotel is there. Phone:
(8162) 13-6918, (8162) 13-6912; Fax: (8162) 13-6934,
(8162) 13-6916.
Rosa Vetrov.
Price. The
prices are for a bed, not a room. A bed in the cheapest triple is
100 roubles ($3.5 US), a bed in a triple with a tv and a fridge
is 130 roubles ($4.3 US). A bed in a double is 140 roubles ($4.6
US). A 'lux' double with a bedroom and a living room is 460 roubles
($16.5 US) for the whole double. Breakfast isn't included.
Rooms & interior. Quite neat, standard rooms, like in Russian
hostels, nothing fancy. The rooms are located in blocks, for example,
a triple room and a double room. Each block has a shower, bath, toilet.
Rooms starting from 130 roubles for a bed have a tv, a radio and a
fridge. There's also a phone in the 'lux' double. There's a kitchen
on each floor.
Reservations. you can do it through any Moscow or St. Petersburg hostel
or any other hostel that is part of Russian Youth Hostel Association.
Better to do it one week beforehand.
Location.
17 minute walk to the Kremlin, 10-minute walk to the railway station.
A bit far comparing to the other hotels.
Description.
This is not a hotel, but the dormitory of the Insitute of Qualification
Improvement. Russian Youth Hostel Association cooperates with this
dormitory, booking the rooms and putting the people there. When
I called them "hostel", they were angry at me, saying
"we're not a hostel, we're a dormitory". The staff at
the reception is a bit rude, but if you push, they're ok. It's recommended
to book a place in advance there.
WayToRussia.Net
recommendation. The cheapest place to stay in Novgorod.
But the location, staff, and interior could be better.
Address:#27, Novo-Luchanskaya Ul. (former Komsomolskaya).
Directions: walk down Karla Marxa street from the railway station to the direction of the
Kremlin, and then make a left turn on the first street on your left.
Walk along this street (Zavalnaya-Koltsevaya)
and you'll see the hotel on your right. Phone: (81622) 72-033,
Fax: (81622) 71-570
Rossiya Hotel.
Price. The prices are for a room. A single room is 200 roubles ($7 US),
a triple room (with 3 beds) is 490 roubles ($18 US). Soviet style
breakfast is included.
Rooms and interior.
The interior of the rooms is depressing: old
paint falling off the walls, dirty bathrooms, and dusty bed sheets
waiting for somebody to sleep in them. There are no fridges, no
TVs, no baths, but there's a shower in the toilet (like in a camping
car, you just close the door, and you can sit on the trone and wash
your hair at the same time, or you can piss on the floor if you're
afraid of the mices in the toilets). The light doesn't work sometimes
and the hot water is switched off from midnight until 8 am.
There are totally 247 places, 99 rooms.
Location. The only good thing about this hotel is its location
-- in the middle of all the main sights, and just on the shore of
Volkhov river, there's the Kremlin and the beach on the opposite
shore, within 5 minutes reach.
Description. The hotel looks like it hasn't been cleaned for ten years.
The hall is empty and stinks, but the staff is very nice and friendly
(except maids). The breakfast is a rarity: reminds of the Soviet
times. There's a restaurant, cafe, ping-pong room, parking, conference
hall.
We stayed there one night and Dan had his camera stolen, so look
after your stuff.
WayToRussia.Net
recommendation. Go there only if there're no other alternatives,
or if you really want to check the crappy old soviet style in a
provincial city.
Address: #19/1, Alexandra Nevskogo (Александра Невского) Naberezhnaya (embankment).
Directions: accross the Volkhov (Волхов) river, in front of the
Kremlin-Detinets. Phone: (81622) 3-4185, (81622) 3-5368;
Fax: (81622) 3-6086.
Volkhov Hotel.

700 roubles ($25 US), a double room is for 1100 roubles ($37 US)
and a 'lux' double (with 2 rooms) is for 2100 roubles ($67 US).
Breakfast is included.
Rooms and
interior. This 3-star hotel leaves a very nice impression
and has a standard western hotel's interior. Everything is neat
and clean and even the main hall, the corridors, and the rooms are
completely renovated.
In the double for $37 US, there's a room with two beds, a tv, a
fridge, a shower, a toilet and a phone. In the 'lux' double, there's
a living room (armchairs, sofa, table, TV, fridge, a phone) and
a bedroom.
There are totally 90 suits. Reservations are accepted by phone and
fax.
Location.
It is located at an old 5-store renovated building in the centrum
of Novgorod, just opposite the Kremlevski Park. 10-minute walk to
the railway station and 7-minute walk to Kremlin. There's a 24-hour
shop and a cinema nearby.

hotel in Novgorod. There's a restaurant with live music, a casino,
a conference hall, a hairdresser and a parking. You can reserve
a room by fax.

Recommendation.
A good opportunity to live for a couple of days in a place that
would cost 3 times more elsewhere. A good option for two people.
