DJ
Bars and Chill-Out Clubs in Moscow:
If you don't particularly feel like dancing,
but still want catchy rhythms and lively atmosphere, try Moscow
DJ bars listed below - club Kult is especially good. For more
"alternative" places that feature live experimental music performances,
see our Art Clubs section.
If you are looking for pre-party / after-party cafes, try the Chill
Out Cafes section
of our Moscow Guide.
Courvoisier. Used
to be Moscow's favorite pre- and after-party spot until it became too popular.
Common complaints among the local fashion freaks is that Corvoisier became too
crowded
and not
as cool
as it used to be.
The
owners opened another 24-hour restaurant called Ogni ("Lights" in Russian) just
next
door
for
those
who
has
a
nostalgia
for
the early days
Corvoisier,
so
the truly chic crowd moved next door (and you should too if you are as pretentious).
The
keys

Corvoisier's success

staff, 24-hour schedule. A great place to start a night out
or to meet new friends.
The cuisine is mostly Italian and quite inexpensive: main course for $7-$15,
snacks for $5, desserts for $3-$5, drinks for $2-$5, a good meal costs about
$15 for one person.
DJs play every day starting around 7pm house and latin-house music, easy-listening,
downtempo. The rest of the time the music is nice as well.
On popular evenings (Thursday to Saturday), there may be a queue outside, so
you may need to wait about 5 to 15 minutes before getting in.
We highly recommend this place, it's very universal and is suitable for dates,
business meetings, or just fun.

Kult
Club
They
call themselves "the first chill-out cafe in Moscow",
but it looks like they copied Propaganda.
Anyway, this place is quite nice
to sit,
have a meal,
relax, and listen to good soothing downtempo or
ethnic music. The restaurant serves African food for moderate
prices a dinner for $15. There's a nice lounge with cushions
and a small table - a good place to meet new people. The plastic
tree in the lounge looks fake though.
If you are up for dancing, go there on Friday or Saturday
when the resident and guest DJs sping quality nu-jazz, house,
and
funk. Wednesdays are the "indy" nights, hosted by our friend DJ Sasha
Reshetilov (weird music from all around the world is guaranteed).

Suzy Wong Bar. If
you’re seeking the more artistic sort of trendy then
this bar may be a good option. The sparse walls here are used
as a makeshift art gallery with the exhibits changing every so
often. The interior retains all the features of this former garment
factory while adding a touch of the orient. The menu offers a
fair selection of Chinese dishes. Most are quite tasty but so
heavily-salted they may force you to stake out a place at what
must be one of the longest bars in Moscow.

Keks Bar
The older brother of the next-door Suzy Wong Bar, Keks has essentially
the same layout with a large bar, a downstairs eating area and
a balcony level. But Keks has a more relaxed interior, with old-fashioned
but plush furnishings, and a duller atmosphere. Still not a bad
place to have some drinks and their meals are quite tasty but
generally you’ll find more action next door. Has DJs nightly
and sometimes plays host to movie screenings. Prices are quite
reasonable.

#11/34, metro Park Kultury. Tel: 246-0864, Website: www.cafekeks.ru.
Ogonyok. A DJ-bar with a fashionable
feel to it and a prime location at the start of Tverskaya. The
two-storey venue features well-stocked
bars on both levels. Upstairs houses the DJ booth, a tiny dance
floor and a small yet luxurious seating area. Downstairs is
much quieter with just a few tables lining the wall opposite
the bar. A very narrow venue, Ogonyok does not fit many people.
The limited space creates a rather cozy atmosphere making Ogonyok
a relaxing and stylish place to have a few drinks, if not to
spend an entire night. This is not a great place to meet people
and dancing here is rare. At any rate the dance floor is very
small, which is perhaps why the club dancer struts along the
bar. Sitting at the bar is a strange feeling. Watching the
young ladies gyrate just inches from your face is almost like
being at a strip club, yet you are too self-conscious of your
surroundings to have the freedom to ogle shamelessly. The music
is well-selected and played at an inoffensive volume. Generally
this is a great place to relax with pre-drinks, after-drinks
or just when you feel like a quiet night. Beers and spirits
go for 110-220 rubles.
Address: Tverskaya Ulitsa,
#5, metro Okhotny Ryad. Tel: (495) 692-6158. Open “practically” 24
hours. Face control.
Tsirlikh-Manirlikh. Essentially
this is a restaurant with a dance floor, but also functions
well as a bar. The management describes the place
as a ‘music restaurant’ where guests are free to
simply eat and drink or to dance all night if they want. Both
staff and clientele are friendly, making for a very relaxed
atmosphere overall. The music is well-selected and at a perfect
volume which doesn’t make conversation difficult. In
fact the place would almost feel like a pub if it weren’t
for the trendily understated opulence of the decor. After all,
the phrase “tsirlikh-manirlikh” itself implies
trendiness.
Beer and spirits are in the 120 – 250 ruble range. The
club features two cozy and comfortable seating areas with a
sunken dance floor and bar area in between them. Tables also
line the edge of the dance floor and there are private rooms
at the back of the club. Sizeable screens around the venue
display music videos and fashion parades. As a restaurant,
Tsirlikh-Manirlikh serves quality food at mid-range prices.
The chef is Greek and the dishes are generally of a European
flavor.
