Chill Out Cafes and Restaurants in Moscow

Moscow cafes offer everything you need from a good evening out: relaxed atmosphere, tasty and affordable meals, and often live DJ music as a bonus. Add to this late opening times and you get the perfect place to go out with friends or to do some people watching if you're alone. Below we list the best and the most distinct Moscow cafes: choose the mood you like and we wish you a pleasant flight.

Get Ready for a Party

Courvoisier

Moscow's favorite spot. The keys of success are well-designed interior, hip crowd, joyful music, tasty and reasonably priced meals,
Courvoisier Cafe Moscow

friendly staff, 24-hour schedule. A great place to start a night out or to meet new friends.
The cuisine is mostly Italian and quite inexpensive: main course for $7-$15, snacks for $5, desserts for $3-$5, drinks for $2-$5, a good meal costs about $15 for one person.
DJs play every day starting around 7pm house and latin-house music, easy-listening, downtempo. The rest of the time the music is nice as well.
On popular evenings (Thursday to Saturday), there may be a queue outside, so you may need to wait about 5 to 15 minutes before getting in.
We highly recommend this place, it's very universal and is suitable for dates, business meetings, or just fun.
Address: Moscow, Malaya Sukharevskaya sq, #8, metro Sukharevskaya (orange line - north), View on Map
Contacts: tel.: (095) 924-8242, http://www.courvoisierclub.ru/

Coffee Mania Cafe
An American-style cafe with friendly atmosphere and jazzy music. Popular among trendy types of all ages. Serves different types of coffee, as well as light meals in mediterranian style and tasty breakfasts (try their porridge). The food and drinks are a bit pricey. Wi-Fi (wireless internet) connection is available for $8 / hour, so you can browse the net with your laptop there.

Sky Lounge
For one of the very best views on Moscow, head there. Located on the 22nd floor

of the Russian Academy of Sciences building, this fancy cafe has a cool interior and offers delicious food in addition to its great location, the longest bar-stand in Moscow and the summer terrace. The cuisine is mainly French Fusion and Mediterranian, the music is well-selected lounge and downtempo.
Getting there is an experience in itself: imagine getting to a large research center, then taking a special elevator to the top floor (wallpaper with clouds is a striking contrast to the stark interior of the research center's ground floor). You then arrive to the 22nd floor, where you are met by a polite security guy who leads you to the restaurant. .
The prices are high, but it seems the place is worth it. A dinner will cost about $30 per person and a glass of good wine with a light meal will be about $20.
All major credit cards are accepted: Visa, MC, AmEx.
Address: Moscow, Russian Academy of Sciences Leninsky Prospekt, #32a (metro Leninsky Prospekt, walk towards the tall buildings with the orange roofs), Contacts: tel: +7 (095) 938-5104, 782-5045.

The prices are very low: cheap alcohol ($1-$2), hearty meals ($3-$10), desserts.
Frequented by students, journalists, and artists. Must be a good place before going out to a live concert (as opposed to Courvoisier above, which is more for the dance-music types).

Chill Out with Style

Bezh Cafe
Warm colours, comfortable sofas, and smooth jazzy music predispose to a romantic evening out. A good selection of food and drinks makes you want to come back. Students from the nearby Moscow Architecture Institute discussing their latest projects liven up the atmosphere.
Seems like Bezh Cafe has found the perfect mix making it the most "fairytale-like" place in Moscow (among the affordable ones). Forget about all the problems and enjoy the life. Drinks and light snacks start at $3-$5, a full meal will cost $15-$20 per person.
Address: Rozhdestvenka st., #12/1 View on Map (metro Kuznetsky Most, entrance from Varsonofievsky lane). Contacts: tel. (095) 925-6990.

Chaikhana #1 Tea Place
If like the idea of lying in a comfortable divan sipping aromatic tea while smoking hookah,
Chaikhana #1 tea place in Moscow

head to Chaikhana #1. Situated at Park Kultury (former Gorky Park) in a huge yurt, this place is a luxurious version of an Uzbek tea house (chaikhana). A very good selection of teas (starting at $10 for a pot), eastern delicacies and sweets ($5-$10), and full meals (from $15). The waiters are very friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. Mix in house music infused with eastern motives and a large TV screen, and you will get the chill out Moscow style. There's another Chaikhana located in Hermitage garden (more accessible by public transport), but it's much busier.
Address: Park Kultury, near Neskuchny Sad, entrance by car from Leninsky Prospekt. View on Map (metro Park Kultury or Oktyabrskaya, hard to find, but if you ask for Neskuchny Sad bridge - it's only 3 mins walk from there). Another location: Hermitage Garden, metro Tverskaya View on Map
Open: 11.00 - 1.00. Cards: not accepted

Coffee Bean Cafe.
The first Moscow coffee chain, nothing like Starbucks, more like a place for coffee enthusiasts. Non-smoking policy not to spoil the coffee aroma, bookshelves as part of the interior, random intellectual quotes on street windows, and great choice of coffee.
A very popular and good place to go out with friends.
Address: Throughout the city center. 1) Tverskaya st., next to Tsentralnaya hotel (down along Tverskaya from Pushkinskaya metro); 2) Kuznetsky Most street, #12 View on Map in front of Moscow Artist House and Jagannath vegeterian restaurant (#11) - metro Kuznetsky Most; 3) Pokrovka, #17 View on Map (metro Kitai Gorod). Open: 8.00-23.00

Loft Cafe.
Slightly posh, nevertheless nice cafe located on the top floor of upscale shopping center facing the former KGB headquaters.
Loft Cafe Moscow

The music is Cafe del Mar style, the cuisine is mostly Mediterranian with an accent on French specialities.
Great terrace. When it's getting cold, people can still sit outside and the waiters distribute warm blankets.
The food is slightly expensive for Moscow, the full meal will cost about $30 for a person.
Generally, a nice place to go out, especially in the afternoon, to have a bird-eye's view on Moscow. Good for romantic dates.
Address: Moscow, Lubyanskaya sq., Nautilus Trading Center View on Map (a very noticeable new building just outside of Lubyanka metro exit), top floor, metro Lubyanka (red line). Contacts: tel. (095) 933 7713 (reservation recommended)
Open: 9.00-24.00, Cards: Visa, MC
