Russia has great traditions in theatre,
which are zealously kept by Moscow Art Theatre (MKhAT) and
most other "traditional" theaters.
There's
only a handful of theatres dedicated to contemporary theatre
and dance in Moscow: Teatr Praktika and Proekt Fabrika (Aktovy
Zal) are among them.
Contemporary theatre and dance in Moscow
Teatr Praktika is the venue for
new drama and contemporary dance featuring lots of great new Russian

Teatr.Doc is
the only place in Moscow to see devised theatre. Often featuring
quite political work, this is still an interesting place to see
the new Russian drama. Also supports and hosts The
New Drama Festival, which takes place every September and is
a showcase for new writing work from all over the world. Address: Trehprudny

Zalopened in September 2006 this
venue located at an old factory building mainly focuses on contemporary
dance. There's
also Kinoteatr.Doc space showing alternative and art-house films,
and an independent music

contemporary dance and theatre venue in Moscow. Address: Perevedenovsky

PAG & ARM is the place for cutting edge contemporary
theater performance and live art events in Moscow and perhaps
the only venue which stages non-conventional and truly subversive
shows.
They have plans
to
invite
DV8
from UK
and the Russian butoh company Derevo in
the future. So far, the performances and live art events are
organized on Fridays and Saturdays. See our What's

Musical theaters
Bolshoy Theatre is the most famous Russian theatre,
so there are more foreigners visiting it, than natives. If you
want to go there, buy parterre or amphetheater places, because
there's
huge hall -- you'll see nothing in the back rows or from the balcony.
Tickets should be bought several days before. If you have no tickets,
you can buy it before the show near the main entrance, but then
the tickets will be very expensive. Address:

New Opera is new, comparing with Bolshoy.
People always compare these theatres, and for the last several
years
The New is going to be best. Great singers,

it popular. The opera is situated
in the Ermitage garden (뇉 ùÏËÚ‡Ê) cozy area with two more theatres
in it and two clubs, if your are there try to find "Club of Tea
culture" the great place to relax drinking best chinese tea.
It is situated in the high red building, door is marked with small

Drama Theaters
There are about 200 dramatic
theaters in Moscow. Most of the time they have traditional
repertoire and all the plays there are in Russian. Here are our
favorite ones: MKhAT
(Moscow's
Art Theatre in the name of Chekov) is a great
classical Russian theatre. Best traditions of Russian Theatre are
being carefully
kept here. If you want to
find out what
is the original traditional Russian theatre - it's the place to
go. Be careful: there is another MHAT theatre in the name of Gorky
- this is bad one. Address:
(Kamergerskiy
pereulok)#3, Phone: 229-8760. Area:
Kuznetski Most, metro Teatralnaya (green), Ohotniy ryad (red). Ticket
office: mon-sut 12.00-15.00, 16.00-19.00. Tickets: about
50 roubles (1,7 USD).
Teater U Nikitskih Vorot. It's a small theater - 50 places.
Interesting traditional repertoire and talented actors. It is always
stuffed
here. Address:

Nikitskaya)#23, tel. 202-8219, Area:
