Bed & Breakfast and Mini Hotels in St. Petersburg

Bed and breakfasts and minihotels started to appear recently in St. Petersburg, but have already gained good reputation for their quality, warm atmosphere, lower prices, and personal approach to clients. Below we list a few recommended bed & breakfast and mini-hotels that we find to be the best in St. Petersburg.
All these Bed & Breakfasts should be reserved beforehand, because the owners need to know when and what time to expect you.

Swiss Star Bed & Breakfast (New!)
Opened in April 2006, SwissStar is a great bed and breakfast option. The Swiss owner has obviously gone to a lot of effort to create a hostel where all details are taken care of, including floors in the kitchen and bathrooms, climate control in each room, an
Swiss Star B&B St. Petersburg

independent water supply and heating system and free wireless LAN for guests. The simple design is the perfect complement to beauty of the city outside. SwissStar has eight rooms: five comfort rooms with their own private bathroom ($100 in low season/$119 in high season) and three basic rooms with a shared bathroom ($81 low season/$100 high season). These prices are for double occupancy. Single occupancy is cheaper and there is also a discount if you stay five days or more. The prices include a self-service breakfast as well as unlimited tea and coffee and registration is provided for an extra 650 rubles. The hotel is attended from 9am-5pm daily by staff who come to clean and can answer any questions for guests. Bad features are hard to find, though the location a good 10-15 minutes walk from Nevsky Prospekt might be a problem for some. But SwissStar is right near Sennaya Ploshchad/Sadovaya metro stations, making the whole city easily accessible. It is also just a short walk from the excellent Pik Shopping Center. There are still some renovations going on in the kitchen and the staircase from the building entrance to the B&B is quite shabby. So much so in fact that you’ll be shocked when you step inside SwissStar and see how nice it is.

Address: Fontanka Naberezhnaya, #93, Apartment 26 (1st Floor).

Griboedova Bed & Breakfast. An agreeable private bed & breakfast owned by a Swiss young men (Taddeo) who's lived in Russia for the last 10 years, studying Russian language and philology.

Bed & breakfast in St. Petersburg

The bed & breakfast is perfectly located on the first floor of a residential building in St. Petersburg center, just behind Kazansky Cathedral on Griboedova channel (1 minute walk from Nevsky Prospekt!).
There are four different characterful rooms (single, doubles, triples) all very neat and nicely decorated with abstract paintings. There's also a kitchen and a meeting room where you can cook a tea or a meal and chat with other travelers.
Prices vary and depend on the season, but usually are from $70 US per room per night. Rooms are usually full, so it is strongly recommended to reserve beforehand.
The owner, Taddeo, has two other B&B, so if he's completely full, he might be able to recommend something else.
You can read more information, see more photos and reserve this bed & breakfast online through Bed & Breakfast Russia booking system section.

Address: St. Petersburg, Griboedova Channel, #29. Directions: metro Gostiny Dvor or Sennaya Ploshchad.

Sovetskaya 21 Bed & Breakfast. This private B&B is located in the old historical city center of St.Petersburg

It is owned and run by a German-Russian couple. The owner Nils Kalle is taking a position of Quality Director at the 5-star Grand Hotel Europe in St. Petersburg, so expect to be treated like a VIP.
The rooms are quite spacious and there is underfloor heating, there is a computer with internet connection in the hall, as well as a kitchen, which is also used as a meeting room.
In all there are 4 rooms in this Bed & Breakfast and the prices start from $60 for a single to $125 for a quadruple accommodation. Casa Leto
Probably the classiest, small-scale accommodation in St Petersburg. That is to say it’s the highest quality “boutique hotel” going. There are five rooms, each named after Italian architects of St Petersburg – Trezzini, Rossi, Rastrelli,

Quarenghi and Rinaldi. The difference between the rooms is the size, the lavishness of furnishings and the bathroom facilities. Room prices vary accordingly. In the lowest season prices range between €120 ($155) for the Trezzini room and €170 ($220) for the Rinaldi room while in the highest season these rooms cost €170 ($220) and €235 ($300) respectively. All rooms feature Satellite TV, a DVD player and heated floors in the bathroom. The prices include free wireless internet, international phone calls, breakfast, refreshments, soft drinks and an incredibly high level of service. Registration can be done for €15. The hotel has a non-smoking policy, which means it’s down to the street if you want to light up. Casa Leto really accentuates the feel of St Petersburg with its sumptuous interior, decorated with antiques, and the environment is imbued with serenity. Even the staircase up to the second storey hotel is atmospheric. Just a few minutes walk from the Winter Palace and St Isaac’s, this is the place to stay if you want to do St Petersburg in style.
Address: Bolshaya Morskaya Ul., #34.

Area: Central St Petersburg. A few minutes off the western end of Nevsky Prospekt

Randhouse B&B Chain
This B&B chain run by a Russian team has a variety of locations, offering a good value for money (except for the overpriced apartment).
The first thing I noticed when visiting Randhouse Morskaya B&B was the enormous common room that
Randhouse St. Petersburg
could be easily used as a conference hall with great photographs and various artifacts decorating walls all over the place.

This first location has three doubles (king-size beds), a couple of twins and one single. Doubles & twins cost EUR70 a night, a single is EUR50 (low season prices indicated; for high season add EUR10 to the price, EUR15 for the extra bed) giving a total of 11 beds plus extras. There’s a private bathrooms in each room. There’s also a kitchen, and as mentioned abovea very large hall with TV, DVD and VCR, phone, and a fireplace. Hall is very large: one side of it is an office and the opposite side has a dining room.
Another location is ‘Randhouse Sennaya’, only few blocks away from ‘Randhouse Morskaya’, at Grivtsova Lane, 11. Sennaya square (nearby) is famous as a scene of a great number of books by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, one of the most influential Russian writers. There are seven rooms with 25 beds. Four doubles, one triple (some have private and some shared bathrooms with showers) and two twins. TV & DVD are also present, no internet access yet, though. Prices start at EUR35; highest is EUR65 varying depending on facilities (shared or private). Randhouse Sennaya is the cheapest place of three, but the level of comfort and an overall atmosphere is great. Two thumbs up.
The third place, 'Randhouse Admiralteyskaya' is a neighbor of Randhouse Morskaya, also located at Morskay Street, Malaya this time. This one is ideal for family stays and is more luxury than the first two, thus more expensive as well. Three rooms (prices range from EUR85 to EUR100) have private facilities. There’s a kitchen, large hall with a TV. Extra bed is EUR15. No internet connection, but we were assured that it’s soon to change. This B&B is also the closest to the major tourist attractions like Hermitage.
You can also rent an apartment at Sadovaya, 11 with two doubles, an office, a kitchen and a spacious hall. There’s a sauna, which can be great during the cold winters. The rent is too high though: EUR200 including weekly cleaning. Monthly rent is EUR2000.

All places have almost identical facilities, share the same great design and have a centralized online system of booking. Visa registration is free for guests. A range of sightseeing tours and airport transfer services offered (EUR25 flat rate for transfers). Children under 12 are staying for free. All prices include breakfast. Payments in cash only, credit cards are not accepted so far.
Hotel Services & Facilities: internet, laundry, transport services (tickets/taxi), visa registration, tickets booking, guiding services. Phone, TV (local channels), DVD. Kitchen.
Room Facilities: central & individual air-conditioning, bathroom & toilet (private and shared).
Area Features: restaurants nearby, food market nearby, historical city center.
