St.
Petersburg Hostels
Hostel Na Sadovoy.
The name of the hostel Na Sadovoy reveals
the location of cozy, cheap & one of
the most centrally-located affordable accommodation places in town. Stopping
here is a great opportunity to walk the routes of Fyodor DostoevskyÍs characters,
which used to live around once-famous ïhay marketÍ or ïSennoy marketÍ,
still the largest and most popular food market in St. Petersburg.
This place might not be the fanciest location in town, but those
who like to go shopping will definitely like it ¿ majority of large
new shopping centers are also scattered around this block, not
to mention one of the oldest cathedrals in St. Petersburg ¿ amazing
Russian-baroque St. Nicholas and celebrated Mariinsky Theater & Conservatory
Hall in a couple of blocks away.
Location: Hostel is only two blocks away from
the metro station Sennaya PloshadÍ / Sadovaya (one stop away from
the most central Nevsky prospect station). Major sites are very
close, plenty of nice shops of all kinds and good eateries around.
Not very quiet area, though. Nice view from some rooms (YusoupovÍs
garden is right across the street).
Facilities: Hostel Na Sadovoy provides very basic
services and facililities. Bandwidth internet connection is available
at the hostel office. Local calls from the phones on the floor
are free. Laundry services are not provided. Visa registration
is free for guests & visa support service is offered for $20. Wide
range of walking & bus tours as well as transfer services (airport
pick-up costs $30) offered. No kitchen (refrigerators are present
in some comfort double rooms); there's a caf³ at the hostel. Air,
railroad, bus, theater & museum tickets booking services, reservation
of hotels around Russia & worldwide. No curfew, so one can hang
out outside till the morning (a good option - loads of nice little
clubs and DJ bars are around to take your drinking abilities to
the next level. Free luggage room and a safe box for valuables.
Interior & Rooms: There are two types of rooms:
40 beds at the dorm. Four doubles and nine 3-5 bed rooms. Night
at the dorm costs 540 rubles in the low season & 600 rubles in
the summer; doubles cost 1650 rubles. There are also 13 comfortable
doubles (some have bathroom with a shower and refrigerator) for
2400 rubles per night. All prices include breakfast, sheets & towels.
Mixed or separate accommodation. Two toilets & bathrooms on the
floor. All rooms have a TV (Local channels). Apparently hostels
are aimed on the least-demanding travelers so don't expect extraordinary
service or superb interiors here. Some rooms have been recently
refurnished and are much nicer than the older ones, so ask for
the best available room and you might get lucky. English-speaking
staff is friendly and helpful. Payments by Visa & MasterCard accepted.
Reservation is necessary - place gets busy!
WayToRussia.Net comments: Personally I would have
chosen this hostel over a bunch of similar places, primarily because
of the location which is truly 'an extra' - tourists would normally
miss this great place, considered little bit more marginal than
The Winter Palace & Peter & Paul Fortress. It's absolutely perfect
for younger crowd, students and freelance travelers.
Hotel Services & Facilities: internet, safe-box,
transport services (tickets/taxi), ticket booking, visa registration.
Room Facilities: shared bathroom & toilet (on
the floor) private bathrooms in some comfort doubles, safe-box,
telephone, TV (local channels).
Area Features: park nearby, supermarket nearby.
Address: Sadovaya 53, 4th
floor (Entrance from the courtyard). Contacts: Tel: +7 (812) 3148357.
Rates: from $19 to $83, double, triple and five-bed rooms at the
dorm, comfort doubles.
Total Rooms: 26.
Nord Hostel.
A walk from the kitchen to your bed at Nord hostel will probably take you as
long as walking to the doors of the Winter Palace,
as you are staying right by the Arch of Generals
Command, a most common way to the Palace square from the main street.
One of the
recently-opened DJ bars called ïNovusÍ extremely popular among
students and clubbers for cheap alcohol and great parties is located
next doors, so even clubbing is included in your accommodation
package.
Location: Palace Square is your courtyard. The
major problem for all the visitors in this very central area is
a bunch of annoying crooks who try to sell you souvenirs or pick
your wallet or camera while youÍre busy looking at the beauties
of imperial capital of Russia. Watch out!
Facilities: ItÍs a typical hostel, so only basic
services are provided. PC with internet connection point is available
for all the visitors around the clock for no extra charge, so are
the local phone calls. ThereÍs a tiny library at the hostel with
books that you can borrow or leave once youÍre done with ïem. ThereÍs
a laundry service (¸5 per load, 2-3 kilos). ThereÍs a TV lounge
located at the staircase on a little ïbalconyÍ between two floors
that hostel occupies available for all the visitors around the
clock. Visitors can take a DVD player and watch movies from the
hostel collection or the ones of their own. There are two kitchens
(one on each floor) fully equipped with everything you might possibly
need while cooking. You can always have a cup of coffee, tea, or
water at the kitchen for free (and cookies too!). You shouldnÍt
bring people to visit you for security reasons; main hostel areas
are monitored by cameras, videotaping everything in case if something
goes wrong. No smoking in the rooms (thereÍs a special area at
the staircase). Transfers to & from the airport and train stations
are pretty cheap (from EUR 9 to EUR 22, depending on a distance). Visa
registration is free for guests.
Interior & Rooms: All rooms are dorms, except
for one double: there's one room with 6 beds, two rooms with 8
beds and the largest one is for 10 people. Double costs EUR 50
during low season and EUR 65 in the summer. Bed in a dorm costs
EUR 18 in the winter & EUR 24 during high season. All prices include
breakfast. There are two showers and three bathrooms on the first
floor and
two showers/bathrooms on the second floor. Every bed has a locker
for personal belongings (EUR 30 deposit is required for a key),
there's also a safe-box at the reception.
WayToRussia.Net comments: If you're a student
or freelance traveler you will absolutely like this place: not
a lot of personal space, but lots of socializing.
Hostel Services & Facilities: internet, laundry,
safe-box, transport services (tickets/taxi), visa registration,
train tickets booking.
Room Facilities: bathroom & toilet (shared), personal
lockers.
Area Features: bar nearby, bunch of fast-foods
nearby, historical city center.
Address: Bolshaya Morskaya
Street, 10. Contacts: Tel: +7 (812) 571-0342, Fax +7 (812) 312-7302.
Rates: from ¸18 to ¸24 in the dorm, from ¸50 to ¸65 for a double.
Total Rooms: 5 (40 beds maximum).
Sleep Cheap Hostel.
A nice retreat from the noisy streetlife is offered
for budget travelers at Sleep Cheap hostel,
located in the quiet courtyard at Mohovaya Street, in just a couple
of blocks away from
Peter the GreatÍs Summer Garden and Fontanka Embankment ¿ the border
of XVIII century St. Petersburg, an ïold townÍ of today.
Location: The closest metro station is Chernyshevskaya,
though one could easily take a walk from Gostinny Dvor to Sleep
Cheap in about the same time. The area is fantastically popular
among students of three schools all situated around this block:
the art college, music college and theater academy. Read: a lot
of great small bars & hangouts. Sights arenÍt far either.
Facilities: ItÍs a hostel, so only basic services
are provided here. PC with internet connection point is available
for all visitors around the clock for 90 rubles an hour (2.5 EUR);
the local phone calls are free of charge (IP telephony cards are
sold
here
for international access). ThereÍs a laundry service (EUR 4 per
load, 2-3 kilos), a kitchen with a big fridge, microwave and a
stove.
There are two combined bathrooms with showers in the dorm part.
In May 2006 Sleep Cheap opened its new wing with three doubles
and three twins (all cost around a 1000 rubles, group discounts
available).
ThereÍs a TV at the kitchen (local channels only, though). Transfers
to & from the airport and train stations cost from ¸10 to ¸30,
depending on a distance. Visa registration is free for
guests.
Interior & Rooms: There are two dorm rooms
at the moment (8 beds in each room) with 16 beds and few more beds
available as extras. Night during low season costs EUR 17, in the
summer season the price goes up to EUR 19, extra bed is half a
price. All prices include breakfast. There are lockers for personal
belongings
in the corridor, which visitors can use for free.
WayToRussia.Net comments: Quite small, but if
grows bigger can rival some better-known hostels in the city. Good
location for such a budget accommodation.
Hostel Services & Facilities: internet, laundry,
safe-box, transport services (tickets/taxi), visa registration,
train tickets booking.
Room Facilities: bathroom & toilet (shared), personal
lockers.
Area Features: bars and restaurants nearby, historical
city center.
Address: Mohovaya Street,

(812) 273-5709. Rates: from ¸17

Total Rooms: 2 (around 20 beds maximum so far).
Hostel
Holiday - CLOSED!.
Location: This
hostel is located around 10-15 minutes (taking the metro +
walking)
or 25 minutes walking from the central St. Petersburg street Nevski
prospekt. It's in a large building just on the bank of Neva river
overlooking Kresty prison.
Facilities. A meeting room with a tv and satellite channels,
a ping-pong room, a piano room, an open terrace with a view to
Neva river (but the terrace is a bit small and dirty), a breakfast
room, a luggage room, and a kitchen.
No laundry, but you can ask a maid to do it, she takes $1-$2 for
a kilo.
No lockouts. Internet access. Security - video surveillance.
Interior & Rooms. Toilets and showers for dorm rooms
are shared. The hostel is being renovated, so some shared showers
and toilets are crappy and some are ok. The same with the rooms:
there are some renovated rooms on the first floor, which are quite
good, the rest is quite neat, spacious, but nothing fancy.
There's a really decent renovated double room with a separate
toilet, bath, shower, a tv (with satellite channels), a fridge,
a ventilator costs $50.
Rooms & Prices. High season (May 1 to Oct 15) / low
season (Oct 16 to Apr 30) - a bed in a dorm room: $14 / $12 a
night, a bed in a double: $19 / $15 a night, a single room: $37
/ $29 a night. The decent renovated double room with a private
toilet costs $50 (for two people). Breakfast is included in these
prices, the accommodation is $1 cheaper if you don't breakfast.
Visa, MC are accepted. Discounts for groups (+10 persons)
from $4 to $7 a day. And ISIC or Hostelling International cards $1
a day.
WayToRussia.Net comments: the cheapest hostel in St. Petersburg,
the price can go down to $12 (high season); a meeting room that
can be good to meet other travelers; but the hostel is located
a bit far from Nevski Prospekt - the main entertainment / sightseeing
steet of the city.
THIS HOSTEL IS CLOSED. IF YOU WANT TO STAY IN A HOSTEL, PLEASE,

other hostels. There's a nice view on the typical St. Petersburg
street outside (Nekrasova street).
Prices. A bed in a 3- or 5-bed dorm room: $16, a bed in
a double: $19, an extra bed is for $10. Breakfast (cereals, milk,
juice, cakes, bread, jam, butter, cheese, tea, coffee) included.
Discounts with Hostelling International and ISIC cards ($1 / a
night). Visa, MC accepted. Write to us if you want to know how
to save some money on accommodation in this hostel.
WayToRussia.Net Comments: We stayed
there on our last trips to St. Petersburg, and it was quite nice.
The good things are: great location, clean rooms, nice staff.
The bad thing is that this hostel is just a place to sleep, because
there are no meeting rooms or something like that. They'll register
your visa only if the invitation was issued with them.
Address: Nekrasova street, #14, St. Petersburg, 191014,

St. Petersburg International Hostel.
Location. This hostel is located in St. Peterburg centrum,
5 minutes walk from Moskovski railway station and Nevski prospekt
street, and there are nice vegeterian places to eat around.
Facilities: No lockouts. Common showers,
toilettes, safe, luggage room, cafe, a "cyberroom",
laundry, security (video surveillance) etc.
Interior & Rooms. Located in a pre-revolutionary
renovated building, the halls and rooms are quite clean and neat,
though the toilets and showers aren't clean enough.
Prices: High season (March 1 to Oct 31) / low season (Nov
1 to Feb 28) - a bed in a dorm room: $19 / $15; a bed in a double:
$24 / $21 a night. Discounts for groups (+10 persons) and with
ISIC (-$1 a night) and Hostelling International (-$2 a night)
cards. Visa, MC accepted. Breakfast is included.
WayToRussia.Net comments: the first hostel in St. Petersburg,
overpriced. They don't put boys and girls in dorm rooms together,
which is silly. They'll register your visa only if the invitation
was issued with them.
