Hello everybody
First of all, thanks for the very interesting site. Many things, many things to read!
Here is my problem:
I am going to apply for a private visa. My friend in Russia is ready to do the needed bureaucratic things to obtain my invitation. As I plan to go to Russia around the August 15 or 20, I hope to be able to get my visa in time (less than 50 days left... let's hope it will make it).
But here is the problem. My friend, who doesn't speak fluently my language (it's not that bad but anyway she doesn't want to take risks), fears to translate into french the name of the needed elements for making the invitation.
She sent me a copy of this page through Fax (I suppose she caught it from the OVIR office) where all the needed things seem to be detailed
http://www.poexali.com/info/invit.html
Wondered if anyone here would be kind enough to tell me in english what exactly means each of the line? I studied a little russian myself, but unfortunately I don't have my dictionnary nearby...
Thank you very much!
AJ

Here is what it means. I have never done this myself but have had friends get me an invitation in the past.
Name of the person for who the invitation is needed in block letters in either russian or latin letters. I think that means block letters in English, basically just clearly written.
Date and place of birth.
пол
Sex
Nationality
Place of residence
I am not sure what this would be in English. I understand it in Russian but can't translate it into English.
Purpose of trip
Planned cities to be visited in the Russian Federation.
Name and address of the person or organization that is requesting the invitation.
I am not sure what this would be in English. I understand it in Russian but can't translate it into English.
Length of time being requested on the invitation.
Hopefully that will at least help a little bit. I don't think it really matters how they fill the form out as long as they can get the invitation. If this is for a private visa, you way want to make your friends life and yours much easier and just get a tourist visa. It is much easier and much quicker. No one really cares what type of visa you have once you are in the country. I have found that tourist visas are much, much, much easier and take a fraction of the time. |

Thank you very much
About the visa itself, Im was asking myself the same kind of questions while reading the site - about getting a tourism or business visa instead of a private one.
But there are a couple of things I don't exactly catch with tourism visa - for instance, I don't know if Im obliged or not to make a deal with anykind of hotel to make the visa valid...
Knowing I would like to stay in Moscow for approx 3 weeks, and visit Petersburg too, perhaps a business visa would be more appropriate. I'm gonna ask her tomorrow if something can be made with the company she works in (knowing in addition that in my country, applying for russian business and tourism visas is the same price).
Thanks!

| You don't need to make any deal with a hotel -- that's why the tourist agencies that provide visa support are there -- they arrange everything needed with hotels themselves. But if you stay 3 weeks and only visit moscow and st. petersburg, then a tourist visa is enough. |
