|

Hello to everybody,
I'm a guy from Italy. After a short trip last winter I heve really fallen in love with Russia, expecially outside the main cities (Moscow, St Pete).
I'm planning a vacation for this summer and I'm thinking about a place interesting by the hystorical, cultural and natural point of view, with not much tourism and at the same time with a lot of entertainment, social life, night life etc.
Any suggestions?
Someone told me good about Novgorod, Smolensk and Tomsk.... any hint?
Thanks in advance

| Novgorod is definitely very very good. You could also try the Golden Ring towns (Suzdal, Kostroma, Rostov Veliky especially). |

Thank you very much for your information on Novgorod.
A couple of question: do you speak by direct experience?
Could you elaborate? In which sense is very very good?
Thank you.

| Yes, of course direct experience, like every thing on this site. I traveled to Novgorod about 1 year ago, and I love its architecture, very small center (so you don't spend a lot of time walking), very clean air, ability to swim just in front of the Kremlin, friendly people, lower prices, the "feeling" of the city, and all the history attached to it (enough to say that it's more than 1000 years old, that it has the oldest cathedral in Russia, that it was not touched by Tatar Yoke in the 14th century, that is was one of the most "progressive" cities and used to be a part of Hansa trading union back in middle ages, finally now Novgorod region is getting quite successful economically because of the attractive policy towards domestic and international investors). |

Hi, I have two recommendations for you.
Sochi in the far south, not a lot of Non-Russian tourists.
Is on the Black Sea , and is the Russian Holiday Resort
Good for a week, but i wouldnt recommend staying two weeks,
Good Climate, lots of hotels (some of which are better than others), but also a good variety of excursions like White Water Rafting in the Mountains, run out of the hotels.
The other is Vladivostok, there is loads of info on Vladivistok because its on the Trans Siberian line.
Because its in the Far East, (it only a couple of hours from China and North Korea) it has a more asian influences, whilst still being strongly russian.
I have been personally to both, both are VERY different.
Regards

I would recommend the lake Turgoyak in Miass, 100 km west of Chyelabinsk.
It has a wonderful view over the Oural, in Pine Tree forest, with many nautic activities : water skiing, scuba diving, catamarans (which are in russian small boats propulsed by feet, not sail boats)...the night life is active there, since it is a holidays destination for people in the region. You also have oportunities to discover the Oural nearby by trekking.
This is a nice place also to find out how ethnically mixed the russian population is, with ethnic russians, tatars and bashkirs cohabitating in the area.
The Altai region, south of Novosibirsk, is said to be quite good as well, but i didnt experience it myself. |

| I has been in Altai mountains twice, and could confirm that it is extremelly beautiful and good place to go. Although it is not much for nightlife or entertainment, however you can get a lot of interesting and safe adventures there, like rafting, parajumping, wildlife and esoteric experiences. |

| Hi! You should try "golden ring", alot of nice old towns. My native city - Yaroslavl is about 250-300 km far from Moscow, so it is not difficult to come here. |

Isn't it a great place to visit!
Natural profusion of Spasskii County is on par with other counties of the Primorskii Region. Korean pine, elm-tree, birch, Manchurian walnut tree, aralia, Amur vine, sultana grape, eleutherococcus and fern are the defining species of the local plant life, while the animal kingdom includes Amur tiger, Himalayan bear, lynx, Manchurian wapity, wild boar, Manchurian roe, squirrel and other species. Over 200 square kilometers of basswood groves are an invaluable source of honey production, supporting local beekeeping tradition for 110 years.
Tigers Reserve in Gaivoron village, sponsored by the Biology and Soil Institute of the Far Eastern Division of the Russian Academy of Science, is the world's only theriological park, where Amur tigers are enclosed in their natural habitat. Established in 1978 and diligently run ever since by a devoted Amur tiger enthusiast and researcher Victor Yudin, the reserve is the automatic choice for anyone visiting Spasskii County. Guests from all over the world, including Germany, USA, Japan. South Korea, Holland have come here to see the tigers. The tour will take you to the Tigers Reserve in Gaivoron village, where you will watch Amur tigers in the enclosed natural park and talk to Victor Yudin about Amur tiger conservation issues.
Welcome to enjoy the fresh, clear forest air and feel the mystery of nature of Primorye.
You are welcome! www.csvlad.com |
