Does anyone know anything about travel between Irkutsk and Olkhon Island in May? I don't think it quite falls under the "summer" schedule in terms of buses and ferrys. Has anyone gone up there around this time? Any advice?!

when in may? i did it about 8th of may couple of years ago. if there is still ice u won't not get the island. but the situation changes quickly- strong wind and ice pulls off. ferry doesn't go yet but u can cross by small private boat. be ready to wait - local people from the island will cross anyway so u can join Wink

uppsss i forgot about bus - u can take public one to "mrs" from bus station in irkutsk. ask a driver to bring u to the shore or walk there

May 4-5 is when I am planning on getting there. So take a bus from Irkutsk to the shore and then either ferry or any other form of transport to get across? Did you stay on the island or stay somewhere else? Any recommendations on things to do while there? I just need to get out of Moscow and get some peace and quiet!!

I plan to travel to Olkhon on the 1st of May.
I booked the variant through

It will cost me 500 R for a bus Irkutsk - Khuzir and
250 R for the boat to cross to the island.
Seems like it is possible without a hitch.

Hi,

I went there in September last year. I hired a car for $100.00 go and back same day. I am i Moscow and will go there again this summer.. September was great not too cold nice in the sun.
