--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am writing in hopes that you may be able to inform me as to what I can do about my current situation regarding my work and me wanting to be with my fiance in Russia.
Here is my situation explained:
I currently am employed by a Cruise Line in the U.S. (they are in Miami). I am a Technician who works on their ships in the Caribbean or U.S. West Coast itineraries. My normal work periods are from four to six months at a time with sometimes up to 12 weeks off in between work periods (contracts). Normally, when my contract is completed, (vacation holiday), the company will fly me to my current home base in North Carolina, then I go from here to visit my fiance in Russia, and/or my family in the U.S. When it is time for me to return to work, then the company arranges my flight from North Carolina to whatever ship they have assigned me to in the Caribbean or West Coast.
My question is this: I would now like to base out of Russia instead of the U.S., in order to be with and marry my wonderful lady who lives in Cherepovets. Our very strong wish is for me to be able to go home to her in Russia during my future vacation periods, AND, also return to my ship assignment from there), - what steps do I need to take to make this a reality? My company says there is no problem with me basing out of there, (we have many foreign employees), but I need to follow the procedures required to enable me to live there and base from there.
I would appreciate any and all advice or information/help you can offer. I tried the Russian Embassy in the U.S. but unfortunately, they were not as helpful as I had hoped.
Thanks,
D

| Look back through posts from the last month. Someone answered this question for someone else who was a US citizen and wanted to move to Russia. The only thing that I remember was that it was a bizarre list of things that would probably be difficult to do. |
