Which part of Russia are you moving to and what size of apartment are you looking for - 1 bedroom - 2 bedroom and in what style (Western - Russian Renovated - Russian unrenovated)?

If Moscow or St Petersburg near the city centre or in the suburbs and willing to commute in via the Metro?

Single - Married - Married with a family. Are you also looking for a school?

If renting for several months I would have thought you could get a basic furnished 1 bedroom apartment for around $750/£375 per month. You can go cheaper $500/£250, that would be real Russian unrenovated with no washing machine etc.

Be careful, being a Westerner they will automatically think you're rich and bump up the price accordingly. Just stick to your guns and show them the money. That is what I have done in the past, wave dollar notes in front of them and the price soon starts to drop.

A nice Russian renovated expect to pay in the region of $1,200/£600 a month.
