This said to ask "anything".......Ive been watching a situation that I cant seem to figure out.

an american woman kept referring to her boyfriend as her husband, yet she still keeps her own name on credit cards, email, even her cell phone message has her own last name. she says theyve been married for 2 years. I think she was offended because I didnt beleive that she was married to him so she started wearing a ring....on her left hand...pretty diamond ring....and he now has a ring, also with a diamond, on his left hand.

I thought wedding rings are on the RIGHT hand, and are smooth, plain gold bands. or am I wrong????

I know in America, you have only a very short time to change your name to your husbands name on things like credit cards, etc.

Does anyone know anything about marrying someone for a green card?
Im not sure if it is true, but I had heard that if you marry someone so they can get their green card, after 2 years (or maybe longer?) you give up your Russian citizenship.

Americans wear their wedding rings on their left not right hand. Women wear an engagement ring first then a band (any type of band) and that band will go in front of the engagement ring after they are married. There is no such time to change your name on anything. A women can keep her maiden name if she wants to, which you don't see much. It is custom for the woman to take her husbands name.

The last question, my Russian friend had to wait 5 years in the USA to become a citizen even though she was married. Not 2 years and then she turned over her Russian citizenship.

If they claim spousal abuse, they will accelerate the application for green cards.
There was open season for women who married American men(and vice versa) who gave up their life(family, friends, home, and job) to come over here and marry their "dream" man. Many of the people who they married them, abused, pushed them into prostitution, some were even murdered, and so on. There was a "predator" on this forum who was looking for Russian women who recently divorced and had the threat of returning back to Russia. They offered employment with a green card to a be a personal "nanny" to some wealthy men.
So the government decided that they would support such women, thus allow them to stay and accelerate the green card status. Now this has gotten through the grape vine and women are coming over here, marry, then divorce to receive a green card, spousal support (sometimes child support), and then invite their true boyfriend from Russia to America.

As I understand, one can live with green card as long as they want and not renounce Russian citizenship; however it is required to obtain US citizenship.

But, I thought you cant have dual citizenship.

A friend who is from Ireland was recently told that America does not recognize dual citizenship and she would have to renounce Irish citizenship to obtain american.

My friend had to give up her Russian citizenship to be a citizen in America. She had to turn over her Russian documents to immigration when she was sworn in at the ceremony. My friend has been in the USA for 5 years and is married to an American.

One is not required to give up foreign citizenship to obtain US citizenship. See http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1753.html and http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=ce2b2cd1f7e9e010VgnVCM1000000ecd190aRCRD&vgnextchannel=96719c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD
The US discourages dual citizenship because, among other things, it creates situations where it may not be able to assist US citizens abroad, but it is neither illegal nor uncommon.
