Hi. I willl be coming to St Pete in mid Dec. and planned on buying train tickets to Tallinn before I left the US, but I've heard the train straight from St Pete to Tallinn has been cancelled, and now it runs through Moscow. I can only stay as long as my visa allows, which is four days, so I want to make sure I have a way out before I get there. Do you have any suggestions on how I can get to Estonia pretty cheaply? Does the ferry that runs btw Tallinn, Helsinki, and St Pete run in the dead of winter and if so, could I purchase tickets online somewhere before I get to Russia?
Thanks for any suggestions you have for me!

| I have just checked on the special web-site http://railway.turism.ru: there is a direct train from St. Petersburg to Tallinn, #649A, departs at 23:21, arrives at 06:49. You can order tickets via this site. The only problem is that the site has only Russian version. You can either try and find other sites that have English versions to order tickets or send me the necessary info and I'll fill in the necessary form for you. |

I live in Tallinn and I'm 100% sure that there is no train running between St.Pete and Tallinn.
2 available options are the bus(Eurolines) and the ferry (Tallink), the ferry is always almoust empty so getting tickets there is no problem. I think there is no online booking available, but it also isn't necessary. |

| The Etonian Railways website informs us that as of the end of September, there will no longer be trains St.-Petersburg to Tallin as the line is closing. That's politics for you. |
