I used to live in Monino, so I can tell you that it's not easy to get there. It's about 40mins outside of Moscow if you take the 'Shosse Entuziastov' out past the MKAD ring road.
It's located on the grounds of the Gagarin Airforce Academy and the museum's times hours are somewhat haphazzard in regards to when it's open to the public. I don't know of any phone you can call to check either.
I'd say your best bet is to take one of the shuttle busses from the Perovo metro stop. They take you right onto the base without having to actually go through the gates and show your passport. I'd recommend having someone go with you (preferably Russian) because if you're doing it on your own for the first time, it will be pretty confusing.
It IS interesting to see since they have a model of almost every model of Russian plane ever built. It's primarily outdoors, so you can see it year round. It's just a question of getting out there on a day when it's open. |
