Hello there! I liked this site, lot's of useful information for travellers to Russia. Congratulations! I was wondering if there are any special offers for appartments located in downtown Moscow. I am interested in the period from 19th to 30th January . Safety is a prerequisite. Thank you in advance! |

| Take a look at http://rentline.ru and when you make the order put in "WayToRussia.Net Talk Lounge" at the "Referrer" field. You will get a special offer then. |

| Apartments in Moscow have become too expensive. It is nearly impossible to find a two room apartment for less than 600 bucks a month in the center of the city. That's what I'm paying, and my place is in dire need of rennovation. |

Not sure why Blaked is speaking about long term apartments when the original person is asking for short term from the 19th to 30th of January.
There are short term apartments available. How much you pay depends on what level of quantity you're looking for, but I'd expect to look in the $70-$100 price range.
Here's one place that offers short term apartments:

| I am a law student who is looking to sublet a room in Moscow for the period of my internship at the legal aid clinic. I am not looking for anything fancy like I saw at the websites: just a simple furnished (or semi-furnished) studio with a bed to sleep on and utensils to cook with or the place to share with international roommates who are in Moscow either studying Russian or volunteering like me. Will it be possible at all to secure anything for a low rate or perhaps even do a language exchange in the family that will provide me with housing? I won't be getting paid as an intern and as a student, my budget is very tight. |

Generally, yes. It's like living in any other big city. 10 million Russians live in apartments here and they're fine. Of course, if you don't know the city, it might be more convenient to be in a hotel with competent staff, but I'd say there's less crime here than New York, for example.
Just use common sense. |
