Hello Lain,
Welcome to this forum. Excuse me, but you my friend seem to be asking for more than average! I am curious as to what brings you to Russia? Also, a few word of wisdom, you have a few weeks to learn some very basic conversational Russian for tourists. I hope you will at least make an attempt to do this. But I also undesrstand the strangenes and anxiety that people face when theh visit foreign countries where language and culture is unknown to them. My perspective however is- that when one travels, one should at the very least make a full fledged attempt to learn about the country , language and culture that one will be traveling to. I hope you will make an attempt at this. YA know the internet is an invaluable resource. I continue to be amazed at what I find here. But, I happen to have the opinion and granted others on this forum may disagree, but I just don't think it is realistic to expect that you can count on responses to your posting to provide you with such favorable response. But I am not Russian and there are undoubedly some ver kind-hearted Russians who may respond.l |

Hello, beautiful people of Russia!
I have read the interviews of ordinary Russians and am totally amazed at the honesty that I see displayed. Believe it or not, many of us Americands admire you Russian people for you spirit and honesty. I would very much like to make a Russian friend.

Ebb, there are lots of cabbies availible and many other sites that you can book a transfer. When I was there, you should be able to negotiate a price of about $40 USD. It is important to always ask the price upfront. If you
There is a shuttle bus to the Metro in which you can get to DT to the Rossiya.
I will PM you some alternative links, because it seems Dmitri (webmaster) is gone for a bit. |

| The Igor is a personal driver, thus, he is not always available. If you want a normal taxi transfer service where you should get a reply within 24 hours (or place your order by phone), please, use this order page: http://waytorussia.net/Services/Car/TransfersMoscow.html |

| I would never take a taxi from the metro. What a waste of 40 dollars! The marshutka is only 50 rubles. |

Good for you, ebb. She had that coming. You ask a perfectly legitimate question about a taxi and get a lecture on learning Russian??!! Welcome to waytoRussia, where no poster is over the age of 22 and none of them can keep up with the subject of any given conversation. But you've already experienced that.
I hope this is a warning to you not to come here looking for any kind of useful information--because almost no one has any. I keep looking for intelligent conversation on this site but haven't found any yet. I continue to hope.
P.S. Sorry I can't help with your question. Every time I come into the airport someone picks me up. Perhaps you know someone who could meet you? |

one more link : http://www.gotoru.com/price_en.shtml
i used their service once, for city->airport, and they're reliable.
by the way, it's not such a big deal about not knowing russian. but knowing the alphabets to read the metro-station names can be helpful, in case you plan to use them. |

Why do you worry about a taxis in advance? Airports the world over have tons of taxis at all hours! Nobody ever books! Sheremetyevo is no different. Last time I did the precise reverse journey you describe (at 5.00am) it cost me 600py6 (Roubles).
When you arrive you have several choices of taxi. The drivers will shout out their availability and try to engage you in conversation. Some speak English well enough. Pick one who does and tell him the hotel name (infact you can even say Red Square because it's bang opposite...) and tell him you paid 600py6 once before. If the guy is genuine he will do it for the same price. If he does not understand show him the exact money you can pay and use your ability to mime...
People do not vanish in Russian taxis! Not as a rule! You can try to team up with someone else getting off the same plane and share the cab! After you clear Russian passport control and wait by the luggage carousel it's a good time to strike up a conversation with other passengers.
Alternatively go out of the terminal, catch bus no' 851 and get off the bus 30 mins later at the metro station "Rechnoy Voksal" - then take the subway (your U$ phrase, yuk!!!) to get within spitting distance of the hotel... a bus ticket and the metro ticket will cost 12py6...
I've not much Russian, I've travelled across Russia several times and the only trouble I ever had was always with the Russian Police at Bus Stations or on the Trains outside Moscow... they all want a piece of your wedge and will do anything to get it... illegally, immorally, or in accordance with procedure... it matters not...
That's what this humble Englishman suggests anyway... |

You should get into one of those taxis that seat 8 people. It is only 10-15 rubles each. Or you can take trolly bus which is 10 rubles. I noticed many Russians dont even pay for them but i heard there are Bus cops that will make you pay 100 rubles if you have no ticket. But i dont know much Russian either thats why i purchased a Pocket Russian Dictionary, Phrase Book and Pronouncation. It was very very helpful it teaches me how to speak russian in english letters, not russian. It gives me simple phrases and tells me what to say and how to say certain things (ex: getting around in town, shopping, reading the menu. Its a very handy book that i bought for $7.50 in Walden Books in a mall. I suggest you buy the same. Without it i would of been screwed (not true i had my girlfriend who has spoken english for 9 years) So goodluck and remember that some taxi drivers will rip you off big time if they see that you are foreigner and especially if u dont understand russian. goodluck my Russian trip was wonderful. Check out these pics its from Moscow. You should visit these spots.
