| I`ll be taking the trans-siberian in early september. Can anyone recommend cheap (as in, the cheapest) places to stay in vladivostok? The prices I`ve seen have been outrageous. Homestays or places outside vladivostok are definitely OK. Also, I`ll be stopping in places near baikal (ulan ude, irkutsk), so any advice about cheap places in those areas would be a big help. Thanks. |

James,
Grab yourself a copy of Bryn Thomas' Trans-Siberian Hanbook, ISBN 1 873756 42 9.
www.in-russia.net/vlad/sys/tops-e.html has a list of hotels in Vladik, with contact numbers. Prices range from 10-20 US a night to 1000 plus (Hyundai)...
By the way, the "star" rating of Russian Hotels doesn't correspond with the western ratings, except at the top end. Just shop by price.....
Regards
