A Russian scientist whom I worked with and whom I dated in the past told me that some part of the land in Baikal Lake will be on auction in a near future. She told me that I should buy it as an investment property (and she will manage it as she works near there).

What are the rules and regulations of foreign ownership for the land in Russia? Also, how sound is this advice?

She told me that local government is trying to develop this area as a future tourist attraction for the Westerners.

I was at Baikal in June of last year, and the weather was rainy and really chilly I visited some inns around and none were busy. Baikal is a en route destination, certainly not a long term vacation destination like the black sea resorts. It s certainly a curiosity but the weather conditions and water temperature don t encourage tourists to stay for long, like they might do in the Oural for example.

If you are looking for property investment, try Rumania, Bulgaria or Croatia, whose currencies will very likely be more stable for your long term stuck cash (theywill join E.C soon).

People from Irkusk like to sail there on sunny days tho.

Vorteks,

Thanks for the info.

Can you shed some light upon foreign ownership of land in Russia?

Thanks.
