Indeed, this has always been a popular topic, but a lot of threads are scattered over a few folders--Talk Lounge, Russian People and Russian Contexts. Perhaps a seperate folder could neaten things up a little.
(International Politics, however, are more suited for Not Relevant.) |

This is an English-language travel forum. We don't need any politics at all here, and anyone who doesn't speak Russian doesn't really know anything at all about Russian politics so there is no point in discussing it.
Under the guise of "Russian politics" most discussions are really about American politics or about the poster's own personal views of politics in general. The thin veneer of Russian politics in a discussion is just a smokescreen. |

It would be too extreme of us to delete or move every politics discussion thread to Not Relevant. Nevertheless they seem to be scattered everywhere and it can be tricky to moderate the forum because of them.
BTW there are people on this board who do speak Russian and understand what you're talking about.
Yes, this is a travel forum, but is it going to mean we should exclude non-travel items? Politics can have an impact on travel too. |

I think its a bit nieve to continue considering this forum to be exclusively a travel forum when its obviosuly become the compeltele opposite. 90% posts in here have little to do with travel. I think the general official direction of this site should be General education information about Russia for travel and for general interest. Even the owner of the website Dimitry every once and a while posts replys that have nothing to do with travel.
To delete posts simply because they dont conform to your rather narrow view of this forum would be dishonest, and yes (no offence), stupid. Especially since they aren't violating the clearly posted rules and regulations of the forum. We shold be encouring people to come in here to learn about and throw in their two cents about Russia irregardless as to whether or not they are visiting or not. Not about Russia? Fine. Post your message in the "Talk Lounge" or "Not Relelvant". People have to right to say what they want anywhere as long they dont violate the rules or offend people.
To continue to regard this site as purely travel only will only to continue make handling the problems in here difficult. Deal with the reality as it is, and things will be easier to deal with.
I think is a wonderful thing that one can come in here and learn travel tips, learn about different types of Russian alcohol, and learn new things about Russian politics that you can't get anywhere else. |

e, thanks for the post--this outline is more or less the unsaid policy of this forum. We want to generate interest in Russia that will hopefully lead to more people wanting to travel to Russia. wavetossed, I don't normally disagree with you, but I think keeping it 'pure travel' is unrealistic and I don't agree that the all discussions here are purely 'pissing contests' or uninformed discussions.
The thing with politics threads is that people get excited about the discussion easily and forget the rules sometimes. There may be a need for a few more guidelines specific to this folder to remind people to respect each other's opinion, try to look at issues from other angles etc.
In any case, the final decision will be made by admin. Dmitry seems to be busy at the moment. |

I agree, politics has its place in this forum, as it is informative and helps travellers understand the russian reality before they visit the country. It will also spare some few stupid questions and remarks that makes tourists sometimes unpopular to russians.
I don t think a special section is needed tho. The "russians" section serves it right. |

Just want to concur with E and Vortecks. I think this site is better because of the diversity of topics, interests, knowledge and questions.
BTW Welcome back E! Where were you? |
