Does anyone know of where I might find a Moscow streetmap in English online?

I will be staying in Krutickaya Nabereznaya, Dom 5
and would like to find a good map so I can find it from Proletarskaya metro.

Any tips or links to a map site appreciated. Maybe someone can find it for me on a Russian map and send the link !?

Also, reccomendations for purchasing an English lang Moscow map online?

Thanks all. Confused

Hi multimedian!,

Try to have a look at www.eatlas.ru

There are maps of both Moscow and St. Petersburg in the english version of the website where you can search for any address youmay like.

I hope it can be useful to you Wink

Hi.

Excellent. Thankyou so much my friend. The site is superb especially with it's english transliteration. I have found and printed out a large scale map of the neighborhood I ma staying in with a label on the actual buidling too!

A very easy to use and full featured site that I would recommend to anyone.

Thanks again.

With respect, I don't think it very helpful to have an English language map. Much better to have a Russian one (you can read Cyrillic, I hope!) - that way you have no problem matching up streetnames, and, if necessary, you can have anyone on the street show you where you are and how to get to where you need to be.

Be warned : Moscow streets and house numbers are enormously complicated. I say this after having wasted over half an hour trying to find an address on Friday. Every person I asked for directions pointed me in a different way! Eventually I found the street, and was looking for building number 11. I found number 7. A hundred yards down the road I came to number 5. Damn. Turned around and went back up to 7, continued, but no joy. It appeared that, on that street, the house numbering went 7 - 5 - 11 - 13 etc. Makes no sense!

And even if you find the building number, you might then need to find the korpus number - ie, several buildings all sharing the same street address. And then, after finding the appropriate korpus, you might then need to find the correct podyezd (entrance way) to get to where you want to go.

A non-trivial exercise! Good luck. Smile

Hi David.

thanks for your comments, it does sound like it could prove a challenge !

I am renting an apartment for 1 week and the owner had provided me with the address in transliterated to English version. I am trying to learn some cyrillic reading and pronunciation but it is proving a challenge ! Very Happy Shocked

I have actually printed out an English (transliterated) and Russian version.
The English to help me initially locate the darn place and the Russian to enable me to match it up, compare street signage and relate to the Metro maps etc.

Not just an ugly face see !

Seriously though. Thanks for your thoughts. It does sound like a challenge and a half, probably for the natives as well as the tourists lol ! Wink

If you spot a rapidly balding early 30's lost English looking guy staggering about Moscow clutching ragged bits of paper in late September, it'll be me.....please stop and help.

all the best.
