Been sending my gf in Penza parcels via the USPS Global Express mail. Had pretty good luck with it.. Always had delivery in 5 days.

This last time we ran into a problem though. Was sending my gf a digital camera for new years / Christmas.

After 2 weeks of non delivery we began to inquire as to were the package went.. The USPS did not know.. the Russian postal service did not seem to know. After a lot of footwork we found out it had been stuck in customs to arrive a week later.

Turns out.. there is a 'new' rule that me or my gf was not aware of. It seems that express mail packages are limited to a value of $170 before duty charges kick in.

So.. be sure to keep them under that amount.. or they will delay it.. and charge you extra.

I always sent my wife and twins in Russia, before they arrived here, everything US Parcel Post Express Mail, and we still send to family members in the FSU the same way.
There is a $100.00 limit on packages at FSU Customs. and this was the limit during Christmas. We're not familiar with the $175.00 limit. (That would be even nicer) I'll check this out for sure.
Our packages usally takes 10 to 11 days for them to receive them .
We don't send "new items" in their original boxes and always list everything either as gifts or second hand used. So far, no problems in the last four years..except... Ijust thought three females was expensive when they were still over there, but now that they're here! WHEW!...can't believe ..don't even ask...depressing Laughing

What about sending things from Russia to the US, will it be a bit faster going this way? I am planning to ship some things from Russian on my trip there.

Whatever you do NEVER EVER EVER use DHL that service is total crap, basically they take no responcibility for your package once its left the USA, also their own employees on the other end open packages and hold those packages hostage while trying to get the person you sent the package to, to pay them a bribe! Then DHL tries to give you some B.S. about how they cant control customs, when its not even customs that has opened your package. Sorry for my rant, just had to share that tid bit! I agree on the DHL and not using them.
About shipping from the FSU...when I went to get my new family and bring them to America with me, we shipped some of their personal items from over there to their new home here.
We boxed the items in their home and city, the boxes then went on the train with us back to Moscow. We watied at the train station and retrieved the boxes.
We shipped UPS to the States, got here about two weeks after they arrived here, everything ok and nothing missing.
Internationl shipping is tricky from any country.

I hope all the forum members had and awsome New Years, and for all the good Russian's on the forum...Merry Christmas on Jan. 7th!
