I will be travelling to Moscow and St. Petersburg with my family. Do I need to get an invite (and pay the fee) for each of us, or can I get one invite for the 4 of us? I assume each person needs a visa and the children can't just travel on mine and my wife's, correct?

Will most major hotels issue an invitation? Do they usually charge for it?

Each person travelling to Russia needs a visa, and the invitation is issued by a Russian travel agency that is authorized to receive visitors. Hotels will register your visa, most often free of charge for their guests. (Must register within 3 days of your arrival) You have to surrender your passports, but they should be returned within a few hours, and will be registered.

I'm fairly sure that each member of your family needs a separate invitation, but I would recommend that you contact the agency that will be issuing your invitation to double check.
