I think you need at least 6-7 days to see the city (so deduct 7 from 23 and get September 16). Get ready for some cool and rainy weather at the end of September (think Seattle in November or Boston in early November). The first part of September should be nicer. |

Sorry - I did not read your question thoroughly and asnwered the question you did not ask.
I would start preparing no later than end of June/early July. Get your visa first. Once you have a visa you can buy tickets and reserve a hotel. |

You do have a passport right? Just checking. That's the first order of business if you don't have one currently. |

dude86,
The consulate you need to apply for a Russian visa is located in New York city. They have jurisdiction in the northeast states and provide visas for applicants residing there. If you can't apply and later pick up your visa and passport in person, then you can ship your application, passport, money order/fee, all other required docs, etc. by way of FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc.. and possibly, with a pre-paid envelope with return address (to deliver your passport/visa back to you). However, bear in mind they may not accept regular USPS for shipment for all of your stuff. Take a look at their site to see what's required for your location . . . http://www.ruscon.org/
Best of luck and everything should work out. You'll have plenty time if you get going by now. Cheers. |

I can tell you from my experience that my wife sent her passport for extension more than one month ago and we still have not received it. There are some special emergency passport services in most US cities where you can do it quicker, but it costs much more money than extending through the mail.
All this takes time - start now. |
