|
|
| I am arriving at Sheremetyevo airport (landing at about 6.30pm so I guess I'll be leaving the airport around 8pm, after immigration, customs etc) and would like to know what the best way will be to get to a hotel in the centre of the city. Is it easy to find the buses that go to the nearest metro station (for a non-Russian speaking person)? |

The best way is by taxi, you will have at least 20 offers in the first 10 meters you walk in the public area of the arrival terminal.
The most interesting way is to go is by bus. The busstop at SVO2 is on the right side (with you back to the terminal) of the terminal, in the most worse case you will have to walk 100 meters to the busstop. Take the line 851, the bus will carry as sign with this number.
Good luck and don't forget to enjoy

| Thanks a lot, Robert. The bus sounds like a good option (probably cheaper and more fun than a taxi). Does the 851 take you to a metro station? |

For sure it is cheaper than a taxi! And more fun too!
Line 851 takes you in 30-45 minutes to Rechnoi Vokzal metro station (first station or last station of the green line) and from there you can reach every part of Moscow.
More info:

And a map of the metrolines:

Print this map (twice if you are going to use it a lot) in color!! and take it with you, you will need a map in both Cyrillic and Latin script. |

| Hi all! My name is Kristen, and I love traveling. If you are into traveling as much as I am, here is a great site that offers you very nice deals on airfares. It’s called Globster (http://globster.com). Just my bit of contribution to the forum |

Mark,
The bus is a good experience and definitely very inexpensive. I traveled on the #851 bus to Rechnoy Vokzal on my first trip to Russia. However, if you have any more than one small suitcase, the bus and the metro can be a bit of a bother. The buses and metro stations aren't as accessable as we are used too; no elevators or escalators and the lugage can be a pain in the crowds. I don't want to discourage you; I just want you to have all the facts. I am very proud of my trip from Sheremetyevo to Izmailovo Gamma for what then (2002) was about $0.65 US.
If you have a lot of lugage, expect to be tired, or want to save some time, you should arrange for a car (through WTR, of course) to meet you. You will be met by a driver at the customs exit (your name on a sign), who will already know your destination. I have used this service for all but one of my susequent trips to Russia (5 times). These cars cost only about half what the taxis that wait on spec at the airport charge. You will also be able to leave immediately (you might wait 45 minutes or more for the next bus if you are unlucky), your journey will be direct and will only take half as long to reach your hotel. Given the time you will be arriving, this might be a good investment. |

| Those busses can be a little crowded, they really pack people in sometimes. No big deal, but just be ready for it! |
