I will be arriving at DME at 2 O'clock in the morning. Can I get to the train station for the Trans-Siberian (forgotten the name, but I know where it is) without paying for a taxi? Will I have to wait for ages for the trains to start? Also, do you think I will be able to buy a train ticket from Moscow to Krasnoyarsk for the same day (beginning of October)? Thanks for any help,
Ben. |

A taxi from Domodedovo Airport to Moscow center would cost maybe 800 roubles. Perhaps 1000 roubles or more if you are an obvious foreigner.
But perhaps a better option would be to take the small mini buses (they are supposed to operate 24hrs a day) from Domodedovo airport to Domodedovoskaya metro for about 30 roubles (trip takes maybe 25 minutes). Wait there for a couple hours then the metro begins around 0600 (presumably you are heading to Yaroslavlski Station).
Not exactly a glamorous way to spend a night - but bring a book and buy some coffee and the few hours will pass quickly. You could also sit in the airport for a few hours if you wanted to wait until morning.
For Krasnoyarsk trains, when you get to Yaroslavlski station just look up at the electronic departures board and it tells you what trains are running that day. There are usually at least four or five trains each day heading east. So you 'should' be able to buy (at least) a 3rd class ticket for departure that day, although there are no guarantees. |

I will strongly discourage from hanging around metro station at night. Better wait in airport until 5 am - so when you arrive to moscow metro will be open. |

| Thanks for your help. It seems staying in the airport for a few hours will be the best bet... |

You're better off staying at the airport until the express train starts operating (it's about 7am I think). Then you can take it to Paveletskaya metro and from there -- circle line to Komsomolskaya, where Yaroslavsky train station is (that's where the Trans-Siberian trains depart from). You can also take a minibus to metro (it opens at 5.35am), and then take the metro to Teatralnaya, change to Okhotny Ryad, from where it's a short ride to Komsomolskaya. The first journey will take about 1 h 20 m, the second one -- about 2 hours.
If you have a sleeping bag you might even be able to catch a nap at the airport. They were OK with it in Sheremetyevo before, but I don't know about Domodedovo. |
