"Privet" everyone! Smile I live in California and was wondering how difficult it is to call Moscow directly from the U.S.? If I have a 10 digit cell phone number could I just dial direct using 011 followed by the country code "7" and the mobile phone number?

I would imagine too that it could be extremely expensive to call Mosow directly without using a calling card. Could someone please recommend a calling card with reasonable rates for calling Russia?

"Spasibo" in advance for your help. Smile

You can call back as you described. I wonder if the number is the actual one called from though. Calling plans/cards change faster than the weather and value depends very much on your intended use. Google for calling cards to Russia and you'll easily be able to find one that fits your needs.

Several of my Russian friends in California also use T-Mobile. I think I'll look into that Time Warner Cable package too. Thanks for your help. Smile

Thanks Surfguy. I had forgotten that WTR had this service. We actually purchased a card through WTR for my wife to use last February while I was in Russia.

I live in Boise Idaho and have a Moscow phone number. My friends and family in Russia can call me and I can call anywhere in Russia, USA, Canada, and Italy just as a local call and for the mothly service it is cheaper than a regular home phone. The company that I get my service from is located in St Petersburg. I pay $39 a month for the service plus $20 a month for the Moscow number. I have been on this plan for months and I Love it. The web site is telphin.com or they have a web site telphinusa.com...

No, you drop the 8 and replace it with a 7 (or +7 on a mobile).

8 is for dialing within Russia to get an inter-city or mobile call. This is where your Russian friend forgets to tell you because within Russia you dial 8-citycode/mobileprefix. (However within Moscow I've never heard of anyone dialing 8-495)

You'll need to call using +7-495-xxx-xxxx

Just thought I would let you know that using a "7" instead of an "8" worked and I was able to send an SMS to Moscow without any problem. Cool
