I have spent months thinking and planning my vacation to Russia only to be told by my travel agent today he wants almost twice the amount of money he first quoted me for accommodation! I keep getting told I need to book and prepay every nights accomodation. I'm now starting to panic. How much should I expect to pay at a two or three star hotel, for a single-not flash room if I just arrive at reception? Any advise would be much appreciated.

Don't bother pre-booking anything. We'll need more specifics on where and when you are visiting in order to give you a rough price-guide.

Hi, thanks for your response. I arrive in Moscow on the 3rd of November. I wanted to spend six nights in Moscow and then go to St Petersburg for 7 nights, then Suzdal for 2 nights and back to Moscow for 2 nights before I fly out on the 22nd of November. I would have liked to have seen more of the countryside but there seemed to be so much to see in the main centers.

You can find lots of internet sights in English for Russian hotels on the web, including WTR. Expect to pay a little more than the listed prices, but it should give you an idea. You can even book the hotels online should you choose to.

Thank you very much for your feed back camarks. If I just go to Russia and find accomodation using the visa support advertised on the internet can I just use my flight intinerary to get a visa? Is this enough?

What you need at the consulate, is not your itinerary but your visa support papers. The visa sponsor will provide you with the details for registration. Then you can pretty much go to any hotel you choose.
