Hi,

I've been visiting this site for a while now, but this is my first post. I'm strongly thinking of coming to Russia late next year for a holiday. I plan to visit Rostov on don > Volgograd > Kazan > Nizhniy Novgorod > Moscow. I'm just wondering if I perhaps might be biting off more than I can chew. I normally stay in places for about two to three nights. The only place I am not too sure about visiting is Volograd. Is it worth visiting? I am sure it is. I like visiting old churches, museums of 20th century history, wandering around. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks
Barry

Hi, I've just interested in your choice. What is an argument for visiting these cities? Old churches or modern museums or museums and memorials of the World War 2?

I must admit the cites are off the beaten track a bit. I just want to visit the "real" Russia, what ever that maybe. Rostov on Don seems to be a pretty city. Volograd has so much history from World War 2. Kazan looks to be a real treasure. Nizhy Novograd is on the way to Moscow. I am sure I can find plenty to entertain myself. Coming from such a young country as New Zealand, New Zealanders often go searching for old cities to get a sense of history.

I consider that the Golden Ring towns would be the most interesting - 15 towns of russian style.

There are also special interesting cities to visit:
Volgograd - old ruined town of the WW2, the longest city in Russia, huge statue of Victory.
Novgorod - 13-th century styled historic center, novgorod Kremlin
maybe such as Kazan - some interesting places
Moscow
St.Peterburg

Rostov on Don and Nizhy Novogorod are typical industrial centers.
