Denounce= to give formal notice of the termination or denial of (a treaty, pact, agreement, or the like).
Still a far off dream |
errrm... since you were talking about American citizenship (why do you feel you are an expert on this, by the way?), here is the US oath of citizenship:
I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the armed forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God. |

Why do you feel you are an expert on anything? |

Why are you waging this silly argument over something so black and white?
Renounce is correct. |

| My point is the word that's is uttered in the process of taking the oath. It's renounce. therefore prior citizenship is renounced. Absolutely and entirely. |

And my point is that I wasn't quoting an oath, simply using a word. You two clowns can amuse each other now. I have work to do. Later. |

okay guys:
renounce (syn)resign, disown, revoke, abandon, quit, retract, forgo, leave, forsake, abdicate, reject.
denounce (verb) To attack or condemn openly and threateningly; to accuse formally; to announce the ending of something in a formal way.
generally means the same.... |

Which was my point exactly. I never claimed to be paraphrasing the oath of citizenship. But the Gasbag needs to put others down to make himself feel like a man. And thanks jo jo, for making the point I've been trying to make all along. Some people just don't listen well. |
