I lived in Chicago for 15 years and know it pretty well. It has bad neighborhoods and very nice ones. The reference described Chelyabinsk as a town you do not go out in at night. Where the hosts at a restaurant (Titanic 2000 I think is what it is called) where pistols to protect guests. Any comments? Thanks.

I think this is grossly exaggerated, and there might be plenty good places in Chelyabinsk still. A friend called it the one of the most polluted cities in Russia, and it is famous because there were (and probably still are) quite some nuclear weapons factories in the area.
What would you think is the resemblance with Chicago? I didn't get that part. |

| Yeah...the resemblance has to do with the "toughness" of the city or frequency of violent crime. Chicago used to have the reputation of being a very violent city. And I suppose it was. Nowadays it is less violent. This makes wonder how different the violence is in USA cities versus Russian cities. I do not have statistics. I would not be surprised if USA was much more violent. |

| It's not true! I have been to Chel. many times. This is ordinary Siberian city, like Ekaterin/ Tyumen/ Novosib. The same behavior of people. The same ekology. Nowadays you can see there normal roads, you will find were you can have a good time (different ways). But very bad policy on the roads. |

I live in Chelyabinsk. Nothing even close. Never seen any problems with criminals in restaurant. In other aspects it is same as other Russian cities of same size (example Ekaterinburgh) - big dirty industrial city. |
