Hey,
I am a student and have always been so interested in the US and Russian Space Program. Anyone know a way to go on a day tour of Star City that isn't crazy expensive? I am traveling to russia by myself over the summer and would love to check it out. Any advice you all can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Baikonour is not in Russia but in Kazahstan in the middle of the steppes close to ... nothing.
I went to Kazahstan and have some Kazakh friends and like you I asked for the possibility to visit it, but it seems it is a very restricted area.
Better go to a Russian aerospace museum (I know there are some in Russia but don't know where exactly) and forget about visiting Baikonour. |

Actually the poster is talking about Star City which is a ay trip from Moscow, not the base in Kazakhstan.
No cheap day trips I'm afraid, especially if you are on your own. You could try contacting Patriarshy Dom Tours but even if they have something running while you are in moscow it's going to cost you at least $200 USD |

Hi! My name is Sergey. About a year ago, I was arranging the Star City tour for tourists.
So, the price of the tour was about $380 for group up to 5 persons, including the transfer from the hotel in Moscow and back, english speaking guide on the territory of the Star City (guy who works in The Cosmonaut Training Center-Star City) and ofcourse the excursion (all the simulates, 12-metres deep pool, the world biggest centrifuge and so on). Usually all the tour takes about 4-5 hours. I slill have the contact with this guy in The Training Center. So, if you will be interested in let me know, I will try to do smth. Also, it is better to find smb to go with you (not to pay all the sum by yourself) ssyoma2002@mail |

Thanks for all the responses! I am very excited to visit Russia, with or without a trip to Star City.
I have heard that it is easier/cheaper to go to Star City with a group. Will anybody be in Moscow July 29, 30, 31 or August 3rd that might be interested in such a trip?

I know this is an old thread now, but I'm looking to schedule a trip to Star City or Energia that same week, so if you or anyone else wants to join up shoot me an email or post here: atticus @ finch . org
I'll be there July 30-Aug. 3. Preferable days would be July 31, Aug. 2, Aug. 3
