|
|
Dear Way to Russia Talk Lounge members!
We've been monitoring the forum for a few weeks now, preferring not to get involved in discussions and allow it to be a totally community-driven forum to support travelers to Russia.
However, we noticed that the forum is being dominated by a few frequent posters who often hijack the topics and instigate flaming.
So we decided to intervene and start banning the users who break the rules of the forum and make it a less useful place.
For a starter, we banned Fire_Goddess and vitalsigns (even though he's not so frequent anymore). A couple of others might be banned in the next days too.
We will also start deleting all threads / discussions that are not relevant.
There will also be other improvements introduced during the next days.
If you have any other suggestions, please, send me a PM.

Hey Dima! It was a great idea.
Just plough your way through the bold bits and tell us why it didn't happen.
Lots of people come here to investigate Russia. Not too many would stumble in to research the Canada vs California electricity dispute, or an American boat that sank 40 years ago. |

Thank you for keeping the site on topic.
I'm a new user and appreciate sticking to the point, purpose and focus. This way we don't have to Google for hours to find dozens of diverse sites to find little threads of relevant info. |

| Thanks Christopher, I am sure there are others who share your view, and know there are many here with a huge store of knowledge, who just don't bother to participate lately, can't blame them, when every thread gets hijacked. |

Sounds like a good idea. Nikir, what is your topic? Do you have something to share? |

If you think that I am the only one who is in Violation...I suggest perhaps some of you: BC, Nikir, Crabman, etc take heed to this quote. As has already been discussed your antics are equally in violation. I've toned it down the last couple of days and it is quite apparent...that you all continue to post meaningless and offensive and unrelated rhetoric here. Seriously think about the garbage you post. Time to clean it up people! |

AS one of the most senior and esteemed members of this forum (you can call me "Sir"), let me give you my 5 cents:
the reason why some of us regulars talk about meaningless stuff is very simple: we love this forum, we used to being here and we want to talk about something. However, very few new people have been coming here lately, who would ask questions, post interesting ideas and discuss something we we would be excited and interested about. If there were lots of new people coming to the forum, it would have been much more to the point and on-topic, trust me.
That goes back to the fact that the forum has not changed much in the past few years, so it's not attracting much attention. It's weird that in the era when Russia is quickly developing and becoming a very important investment and business destination, this forum does not see too many people asking questions about it. |

First of all, define relevant. Who get's to decide what is relevant and what is not? You? You know, I was born, and grew up in a country where censorship was a part of our daily life, so I am used to that, but I don't think that all the American, Australian, Canadian, and West European people, ones who grew up in a Democratic society, are used to being treated this way. Honestly, I don't agree with the whole "Strickt Control" thing. This isn't some third-world dictatorship like Burma, Cuba, or North Korea, and, no matter how hard some moderators may wish it were so, you are NOT Fidel Castro, or Kim-Jong-Il! You have no right to tell other people what to think, or say! If you do, then don't complain when China is censoring the Internet. You are no better!
We will talk about what we want to talk about! We have a right to that, it's called Freedom of Speech! |

I disagree with you here. The owner of the forum has the right to set rules here. After all, it's his site and he pays for it. So you can understand his desire to keep this forum relevant to newcomers who can also pay for some services that this site offers (visa, hotels, etc). No one is stopping you from creating your own blog and saying anything you want there. |

Actually if you are talking about Dmitry the owner of this web site, the answer is YES. |

Well, if you just keep on banning people, just because they say something that you don't like, soon, this site will indeed be uninhabited... Everyone will be gone... You already drove away Fire-G, and Vitalsigns/Markus... You tried to kick out Surfguy... Who's next? It's just sad, really...
What you should do, is allow everyone to express their opinions and ideas, and defend those in open debates... And don't worry if it gets a little heated. That's what makes it fun. |

Unfortunately, 'flaming' seems to be a common feature to such forums. However, thank you, Dmitry, for trying to improve the standards!
There seems to be a lot of flaming going on in the sticky thread 'Dishonest Language Centres'!!
By the way, how can I start a sticky thread to recommend good English schools? |
