Why are some Russians so resistance about having gays march in a parade?...I'm not a big parade person, however, I feel some people should have the right to march and demostrate whatever issues they have. I know this is a hot topic because people's religion and their own personal beliefs are not for gay rights..understandable. However, most countries in the Europe have these parades with some demostrations postive and negative but at least they are able to march. I recently was looking at Youtube.com and noticed this march in Moscow with some demostrators using physical violence.

Well, I think it may have been mentioned here before, but homosexuality was a criminal offense in the Soviet Union, which is most likely why the mentality against gays still exist.

A link that provides some good info on gay Russian history:

I have no problem with gay people marching, having parades, families..etc. One thing bothers me: I don't want to explain anything to my preschooler, when she asks why the little girl in her Daycare has two mommies.

Very Happy

Hmmmm, isn't sex education always a touchy subject for parents?
I know my parents never sat down with me and "had the talk:

You won't have to. Kids work it out for themselves very quickly. I am amazed at what my 7 year olds discuss in relation to their school friends. So different to when I was their age.

Gays are generaly not accepted in Russia. People feel that a man having sexual relationships with other men is...
...wrong
...unnatural
...disgusting
...unproductive (means: at least heterosexuals can have children and thus support healthy population growth, gays, on the other hand, are totally useless in that regard)
...meantly sick (that gays are simply people with mental problems that should be in asylims, not out in the streets, actually that's what happened in the USSR, homosexuality was considered a mental illness)

I, personally, share some of these attitudes, but that doesn't mean I'll go beating people up in the street.

As far as parades... well, if gays want to have thier weird relationships, that's fine, but why not keep it to themselves, and do it in private. Why push it into other people's faces? Offcourse it irritates... Vancouver just had a gay parade recently... fucking naked queers, swinging their shit around... disgusting...
not that I am homophobic or anything...
but I do not like gays. I don't. I don't like them. Period. They make me uncomfortable. I would not let my children near a gay person. I am sorry if that offends anyone, but that is how I really feel about gays.

I was looking for a book for my children once, when came across a "nice" story, where one prince fell in love with the other prince...That was too much. Every time someone gives my kids books, I have to make sure, they are appropriate.

Yep, acceptance is ultimately a veeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrry long road travelled for gays.

One of my uncles is gay and when I was a child, I knew there was something different about him but being a child, had no clue. Never saw him kiss another man, or hold hands with men so it wasn't until I was much older that I realized he was gay and was attracted only to men. I was like, okay.

In native Indian cultures, gays were revered, often were the medicine and/or the holy men in the communities. Gays were thought to have special powers, more in tune with the spirits. Very different from attitudes/beliefs that the settlers from Europe who came to North America had.

Here in Toronto, we have a rather Conservative/Victorian mindset still, even with all the different cultures living here. Sexuality is/has/probably will always be a controversial subject. It makes folks uncomfortable.

Well I believe that parents of pre-school age should check for any sexual content. Also, you have to watch what you're kids watch on television because there is so much violence and hatred that kids start to believe this is normal behavior..If I had children they would be going to museums, threatre, musical concerts and of course I would want them to be accepting of all people...so a good environment would be in a large metropolitan city where they can interact with all people of with various ethnic backgrounds, religions, sexual preferences and races. I would not want my child to be a social moron and hateful towards other people. It's my opinion. Laughing

As far as Russki....there's nothing that will change your way of thinking which is okay with me. However, no one says that you have to watch the parade live or on television. Also, you should read that article about Russia on homosexuality..it's very interesting.

I do not mind if they demonstrate(?) issues of any kind, but I don't like
when bare-arsed hordes of any orientation march on city streets. There is Rio carnival for it.
Moreover, I do not consider it a demonstration of issues, but a cultural propaganda - "be like us - it's cool" in its most vulgar manner.

"почему план выполнен на 105% а в магазинах нет колбасы?"
And answer in a very delicate way so that said prescooler doesn't let out something 'mommy said you all are pervs' to their fellows. And you realy don't want him think that it's normal, do you?

ps - technically there is _really_ only one mommy, right?
