I don't think Russians think about Canadians or Mexicans. Which is a pretty good thing, I think -- no stereotypes to overcome or live up to.
My wife's parents and brother visited us in Texas last year and we drove deep into Mexico to visit some friends of mine in San Miquel de Allende -- they loved the culture, but were shocked at the poverty. For the first time, they saw a country that was poorer, dirtier, and more corrupt than Russia. Personally, they had great respect for a Mexican who lives on and takes care of our place in Texas. |

| So you liked the food? What did you eat if you can remember, also you didn't get sick right?, many tourists get sick when they first eat in Mexico, also if eating in Mexico try to eat yucatec food, it's the best in my opinion, it uses maya recipes and is very healthy. |

It is usually the water that tourist get sick on in Mexico, it is called "Montazuma's Revenge". Take my word for it , "don't drink the water". |

I don't think we should take your word for it, Jo Jo, since you have been to Mexico, as far as I can understand.
There are some developed places in Mexico where tap water is clean and safe to drink. One great example is Cancun and Riviera Maya - both extremely popular vacation spots for Canadian and Americans. I visited Cancun 6 times and never had a problem. Outside of the resort towns, one has to indeed drink only the bottled water. The same is true of Russia, including Moscow and St Petersburg |

| I was told by russians in St Pete not to drink the tap water...well I did and didn't get sick. I also drank water in Tiajauna and sometimes have not gotte sick and sometimes I have. But I did drink the water in El Salvador and nearly died. SO one should always be careful... |

| Yes I know about the water in here, I'm from Cancun and I never drink tap water, and I don't know anyone who does, always from bottle, although here in Cancun and in all the Peninsula of Yucatan it is safe to drink tap water, still I stick with bottled water just in case, and I recommend anyone who visits the country not to drink tap water. |

| So what opinion does everybody have of Mexico, and what other places besides Cancun you have visited, I really like Cancun, but I don't see it as very mexican, there's not much to do here except for the beaches, shops and nightclubs, perhaps that's the reason it is very popular for young students who only want to party and drink. I recommend the State of Yucatan much more, it has a large history and some breathtaking colonial and maya sites. I'm not bashing Cancun, but if you really want to see Mexico, Cancun and Tijuana are the least places I recommend. They're great for a short time, unless you have a large bank account to stay there for a long time. |

I think Mexico is a very nice place, not that much to see, but nice people. I had a business many years ago, and I used to go to Mexico, and buy those statues, and plaster items off the side of the road. The Mayan pyramids are amazing, to be sure, but an ocean is an ocean, so I never liked the resort cities. And I only drink the bottled water with the worm in the bottom. |

| Well, I think the country has tons to offer, but the tourist agencies focus mostly in the beach resorts, Mexico City, and a few other places, so to really explore the country one most learn some spanish to get some directions from the locals. I have seen many times ancient spanish palaces and haciendas abandoned on rural roads, and many small villages with great architecture but unfortunately on a terrible condition, it's a pity that some buldings that have more than 400 hundred years are almost in ruins, and some roads are in very bad shape, so extensive traveling can be very difficult, so many great places and natural landscapes are in complete isolation. Also the abandonment of the rail transport in the 80's which links most parts of the country is another reason for the loss of many sites. |
