Hello everyone, I'm writing a paper about Russia's economic development and I am requesting some ideas on which to focus my thesis on. The model of economic development is within the context of sociological, political and cultural changes. For example, as part of China's economic development they have formed a one-child policy.
Any recommendations is very much appreciated |

| The one child policy is to get the people off of agriculture and bring them to the cities. I would think that Russia is laking in the socio and cultural developentment...perhaps write about how the economic boom is not meeting the demands of the society. |

How about massive corruption and the fact that the government owns or indirectly the companies that are responsible for over 70% of the economic output of the country? Gazprom has become one of the largest companies in the world.

think of all those poor bastards working for and being controlled by the state. Russia is soon to be back in all it's glory of Communism. And being a police state. But hey if the people want this then more power to them |

I'd be more interested in knowing what percentage of people THINK they want to go to Communism, until it actually happens and it's not the utopia they thought it would be... |

| No doubt, but it's always interesting that people think they want one thing, until they actually get it...then they realize it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. |

What I notice when I was there that there were still Communist norms like paying off State Police to stay longer at a monastery. There was a German guy at the monastery where I visited and he said he had to pay off the State Police to stay a few extra days at the monastery. Also I notice that guests from outside were not permitted to stay overnight in a hotel room, they had a curfew. I invited a Russian couple to come up to my room because I needed to take more money to go out to dinner and a security guard told them that they only had an hour to visit. My new Russian friends that night said that's common practice that didn't die with communism in Kazan.
Anyways Surf, are you okay with the fires in San Diego. I've been watching the news and it looks very bad? |

| Ok...well my shop is all ashed out...so no work this week. Plus they are evacuating much of the area to the south and south east all the way to Mexico Border. 1200 homes have been burned...and 300,000 people have been evacuated. My business Partner's home is well we don't know but the fire is going through there. I live closer to down town and the beach so I am not threatened. But this is a bad one fore sure. Malibu got torched though and well...hey it's nature these things happen...In the words of Smokey the Bear....REMEMBER FIRE BURNS EVERYONE! |

| That's crazy! Well, I hope that there is rain coming your way soon, however, it looks like it's too late since most of the damage is done to people's homes and businesses. |
