How do I travel the Trans-Siberian railway from Beijing to Moscow with longer stopovers and visas?

Hi!

I would like to clarify some questions regarding travelling by train from China, through Mongolia and into Russia (the trans-Siberian railway).

I am a Swedish man and will try to travel the world around and do not want to miss out on this amazing experience!

What kind of visa would I need and how much would it cost to make this trip. I am considering to sleep over in some cities in Russia during the train trip from the east towards west and St. Petersburg. I have read that a tourist visa is valid for 30 days so that is how long I intend to plan my visit and experience of Russia and then leave the country.

How do I get the invitation for the visa? Am I to mail a letter to the hotels I will stay in or should I do in another way?

Is it possible to apply for a visa if I am not in my own country at the moment? I will be working in Australia a couple of months before entering Russia. Will do some travelling around south-east Asia and China after my time in Australia.

If I decide to stay for a couple of weeks in Mongolia as well before entering Russia, will that affect the train ticket and price? For example, what is the difference between booking the whole trip from Beijing to Moscow or St. Petersburg and booking shorter trips individual. For example, Beijing to Ulan Baatar and then Ulan Baatar to Irkutsk and then Irkutsk to Moscow.

I would like to travel as cheap as possible.

Thanks for all the help I can get
Best way to travel the Trans-Siberian and still see most of the cities?

I'm hoping to travel to Russia for the summer and thought the best way to see the country would be to take the Trans-Siberia the whole way, but I'm not sure how much this is going to cost me or the best stops and ways to get the best experience.

Visa registration when travelling by train

Hi,

I am planning to travel the Trans Mongolian this summer. For obtaining a visa, I would like to use your invitation system. But how often do I need to register my visum then? The total stay in Russia will exceed the 7 working days.

You usally let your hotel arrange this for you, but when you sleep in a train, this is not possible. Do I need to go to the police at every stop or will one validation by the visa issuing company will sufficient?

Which is better - The Red Arrow or Grand Express train from Moscow to St. Petersburg?

Hi there

We're two adults and two infants and wanting to travel in a little style between Moscow and St Petersburg. What would be better, the Red Arrow or the Grand Express. Are there any good website pictures of these trains (interiors etc). Also what would the general prices be for an August trip? We've tried googling but can't come up with definitive information.

Cheers
Hello all,

Myself and a friend wish to travel from Vladivistok to Beijing. We hope to do this around the 17,18,19 or 20th of March this year.

What are our options?? we wish to go by land (bus or train) to keep costs down, however im having a hard time finding this sort of information online.

If anybody replies can you please include a link and perhaps costs involved? If anybody has done this trip i would love to hear about your experiences!

Cheers!!
