I am taking the train to Irkutsk from Ulaan Baatar, and hoping to leave my luggage there and hike for a few days around Lake Baikal before flying out of Irkutsk.
Can anyone recommend a safe and friendly hostel/hotel/homestay for such criteria?
It would likely be left for 2-4 days.

You could leave your luggage at the lockers at the train station, or you could use Baikal Hostel -- see address here:
