Everybody out there,
On June 21, 2008, 3 vans will leave Ireland and travel to the outskirts or Ulan Bator with essential supplies and equipment for communities dealing with the harsh environment and geopolitical circumstances that is Mongolia.
We have some gaps in our knowledge and hope to acquire some information from the pundits on this most helpful and for us timely forum.
1. How are the roads between the Urals and Irkutsk at this time of year? Are they suitable for 3 loaded Volkswagen Transporter Vans (2000 model).
2. How is the camp ability between Moscow and Irkutsk? Would it be true to say that it is safer to camp in the forests than around the cities?
3. Can suitable Mosquito Spray (etc.) be obtained in Russia or should we carry our own? I have found in the past that local mosi. products are better.
I would appreciate your help and replies. We plan to travel from Ireland - Germany - Poland - Latvia - Russia - Mongolia.

Somewhere between Krasnoyarsk and Irkutsk

and this is not the worst part. Less mud and more dust in dry season. |

You might consider getting a vaccination against tick- borne encephalitis if you're camping in the forests. May to September is considered to be tick season in rural Russia, according to the Lonely Planet ( Russia & Belarus ) travel guide. |

i'd rather advise u to stay in motels or small hotels (they're cheap in small towns & villages) & leave cars at parkings. my company has supported motor races several times. the last one - EurAsia Cabrio Challenge in 2007. ur transporter vans are more suitable then cabriolets, right? u'll survive
u can buy mosquito sprays in russia |
