|
|
Hi guys!
I'm leaving the US in 3 weeks on trip to the North Cape. From there I would like to cut into Russia to Murmansk. From Murmansk I'm planning to ride to St. Petersburg. I have a couple questions:
- How long is the ride from the Norwegian border to Murmansk. Is this a paved road?
- How long is the ride from Murmansk to St. Petersburg? Is this a paved road? Is there fuel on the way? How about motels and other infrastructure?
- I'm travelling solo, how safe is it?
- Is there good GPS data available for Garmin?
- Do you know any motorcycle clubs in the area or on the way?
- Anything else I should know ?
Thanks so much for your help!!! |

I can't speak to road conditions, distance, infrastructure, etc. Try www.horizonsunlimited.com.
What I can, though, is speak to the Garmin data. It's very unlikely that you will find good GPS data for this route. Garmin has a number of partners that develop maps for use around the world, and you will find one for Russia - Roads of Russia by Navicom.

I've used this product in the Moscow area and it is actually pretty good. I believe the current version has maps for St Pete, but would be surprised if they extended outside of the metropolitan area.

Dan, thanks a lot!
I'm surprised you know HU, that's a pretty specific motorcycle travel site
How about maps, do you know where I can get a good map of the area in the US? I tried a couple outlets, but noone had anything better than the big Russian Auto Atlas...
Thx |
