|
|
Hello!
I am pleading for anyone’s insight and/or suggestions regarding getting into and out of Russia. I would love to attend my friends wedding this August; but I am in a hopeless situation. My Russian passport has expired 5 years ago and I got married since then, so all in all it will take a year to renew my Russian passport. My US passport indicates that I was born in Russia, so I cannot receive a visa. Now that that you see my predicament…is there any other possible temporary paper work that would allow me to travel to Russia and most importantly comeback safely to US? I just want to go to Moscow for a week for a very special event…
Hopeful,
-N |

natusia,
Are you certain that a Russian-born person can't obtain a visa?
Do you know where to find the rules concerning this?
A few years ago, I flew to Russia sitting next to a very sweet lady who was born in Russia in the 1920s, grew up in China in the 30's, and had lived her adult life in America. She was returning to Russia for her first time, since she was a devochka. At the time I assumed she had a tourist visa like I did...
I don't have an answer for your problem, but I will appreciate if you can educate me!
P.S. I did some more reading, and I see that the problem is that you are still a citizen of the Russian Federation. When you left, did you cancel your propiska, do paperwork with OVIR, and register at a Russian Consulate in America? If so, maybe it won't take so long to renew your passport. I also read something that IMPLIED that it can be possible to get a visa to Russia without renouncing citizenship. Have you talked to a consular official about this? |
