Hallo,

after reading through a lot of helpful information here, there is still one point unclear to me. Coming over from the Crimea, I am going to make a sham reservation for one night in a hotel Sochi to get my visa registered for my whole stay. But I don't want to stay in Sochi at all, as I am going to trek in the Russian Caucasus. Now, will the hotel just stamp my visa on the spot, and I am free to go, or will they submit it to the OVIR, which will take up to four days?

Thanks for any hint,
harzer

Rules vary from town to town, they might register you straight away, or they might take your passport to OVIR in which case it'll take some time to get registered. Also, you may need to register at other places where you will go as well.

Thanks for your reply. I believe the Russians really know how to teach their guests to travel slowly! Smile
No really, it's not the worst thing to happen for breathless westerners...
