As many sites as I've read about Russian visas, there are still some things I don't understand.
(1) Do you need an 'invitation' from each hotel/hostel at which you are staying
if you are staying in more than one city?
(2) Is there a separate charge for the 'invitation' AND the 'registration'? |

You only need one invitation from a Russian travel agency for your visa, and you can list up to six cities that you will be visiting.
There is a fee for the invitation, and a fee for registration. A hotel will register your visa for free if you are guest, otherwise the price is around $20 if you choose other options.
You may need to register your visa if you go to different cities. Although last year I visited Moscow and St. Petersburg, and only registered in Moscow and had no trouble exiting the country. Perhaps a WayToRussia admin can clarify if you are supposed to register in every city/town that you visit. |
