Hello!
I'm heading to Beijing in a weeks time, and hope to buy a ticket to UB from there. I have a few questions that I am hoping someone here would be so kind to help me out on!

This is the last part of my around the world trip, and I am a bit nervous! I am not doing the TransMongol train trip through a tour group, just on my own. I will only have a 1 month visa for Russia, and hope to visit UlanUde, Irkutsk, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirisk, Omsk, Krasnoyarsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Moscow and St.Petersburg.

Is it going to be possible to visit all of those places in just one month? My real question I guess is are there trains that run frequently enough for me to visit these places for just one, maybe two nights, and then leave to carry on to the next place?? For example, the day I arrive in Irkutsk, will I be able to buy a next day train ticket to Krasnoyarsk?

I am starting the trip in Beijing, and wondering how often does the train leave for UB from Beijing? Is it really only once a week like the China lonely planet states?

Anyone that could just help a little I would SOOO much appreciate!!
Thanks!

Will, if it's not yet too late you could try to make up an itinerary at www.transib.net. I travelled with them this summer. You can calculate a trip right on the website and it kind of combines all the trains into an itinerary. And then if it looks expensive you can cut the numbers of nights etc.
Hope this helps!

Once in Russia the further west you go the more trains there are and at this time of year you should not have any trouble getting next day tickets. The only thing to bear in mind is the arrival time at your next stop and if you want to see particular parts of the journey from the train, like the spectacular and prolonged view of Baikal for example before you get to Irkutsk, make sure that the train you catch will pass it in daytime.

Hi Will,

I'm doing the same trip as you essentially (well I will be next year) and will be interested in the replies you get.

I've sent you an email about visas etc, hopefully you can answer a few Qs for me if possible!

cheers
Chris
