International volunteers needed!
I'm currently volunteering at an environmental group in Irkutsk called the Great Baikal Trail (GBT), which is devoted to building a system of trails around Lake Baikal so as to encourage ecotourism and sustainable development generally.
We're looking for more volunteers to come help with our summer projects. There are 23 such projects, located around Lake Baikal, and they run from June through September.
Each project has 15 to 20 volunteers (typically half Russian and half international), a Russian crew leader, and a Russian English / Russian translator. Volunteers have come from all over (this year we have Americans, Danes, Canadians, Germans,...).
Customized work projects and village home stays may be arranged for an organized group. Long-term volunteers also needed. We work for the first part of the day clearning trails, then hang out, hike etc. (don't worry, it's no gulag). If you're looking to experience Siberia, meet a lot of great people, work for a good cause, and see one of the world's natural wonders--Lake Baikal--this is a great way to do so.
Give me a shout if you're interested at gbt.volunteers[at]gmail.com

hi mark
i'm marie, i'm from belgium and i 'm looking for an opportunity to volunteer in russia, and this project in siberia really interests me..
i've been learning russian for several years and have already been in russia two years ago, travelling and volunteering with children, but only for a short time ( one month)
so, i know that you were talking about a summer project, but you said they also need long-term volunteers? coz that's what i would like to do.
so, if you still need people, just let me know..
