I may just be being a bit dim but i can't quite seem to figure out the ticket ordering on this site, for trans-mongolian. I put moscow - beijing in the departure/arrival boxes and it gives me the details of a train available, but i can't tell if it actually goes through mongolia. would be quite a disaster to do the trans-mongolian and manage to accidentally miss mongolia. it does provide a train number, is there somewhere i can match it to the train numbers doing the different routes?
Also, just to make myself sound a bit more stupid. are all the transmongolian trains direct, without any need to change train if you don;t want to?

please forgive my ignorance

The other way to get into China is with the TransManchurian but I'm sure with this one you have to change trains so I would expect the train you are trying to book will go through Mongolia. Also it sounds that you want to go straight to Beijing without any stop and in my opinion that's a mistake. Try to stop at least in Irkutsk and UlaanBaatar for a tour (if you have days to do it) so that you enjoy the trip. Doing this you have to book different trais and you will be sure you pass trough Mongolia

good point, think i will stop off in Ulan-Bataar. Strangely though it can give me a price for direct moscow-beijing ($306), but if i add a stopover in ulan-bataar it doesn't offer me any tickets, it says they cost $0.
i'm planning on going in the beginning of september.

anyone encountered this before?
