|
|
I am currently in Russia on a business visa, working via the internet for my British firm, all registered, legal and happy enough. The problem is that the visa expires at the end of August and I know extensions are impossible, so I'm flying back to the UK.
I want to live in Russia permanently and work via the web from Siberia. Is it true that I may not get another visa within the next 90 days? Is there another type of visa I may take? For example, many Russian friends would invite me on a private basis but I don't know how long the visa duration would be.
Any suggestions gratefully appreciated (marriage and bribery have already been suggested, thanks!)............ |

Okay..... no replies so far, but I've been doing a little digging (including on this site) and it seems I have a couple of options. ANY thoughts would be much appreciated......
1) Business visa- Given that my current 3-month business visa is about to expire, do I actually have to stay outside Russia for a further 90 days or can I re-enter straight away on a new 3-month business visa?
2) Personal visa- Many Russian friends have kindly offered to invite me on a personal visa, but again, the 3-month maximum applies, and if the info on this site is to be believed, it would be a much harder process than they realise (though many of them have had enough contact with the local FMS to know what a pain in the zadnitsa it all is).
3) Student visa- I could perhaps enrol on some course at a local uni (I have contacts, having lectured before) and do minimal hours there (perhaps not even attend) but still work through the web for my UK firm. I would happily help the uni out on the English-teaching front.
4) Work visa- probably the best option in the long term but I hear that it is currently taking the universities around a year to gain approval for foreign teachers.
5) Encourage Russia to join the EU immediately. Somewhat unlikely in my lifetime, I fear.
As I say, ANY thoughts are most, most welcome.....
Cheers, and poka
