Hi!
Can anyone tell me whether or not it is easy to get bottled/clean water along the Yenisey River- either in towns or on the passenger ferries?

You can stock up in Krasnoyarsk and major towns on loads of mineral water etc. Smaller villages etc will be a problem.
Your stomach's life in your own hands if you drink from the river. It has ghiardia type bugs in it and the COLD water supplied to houses/flats is massively filtered and OK to drink, but the HOT water is only filtered once and the bugs are alive in it.
Ask me how I know!!!
I don't know what condition the river water is in further upstream but my guess is just as bad.

you can easily get it in any supermarket or kiosk. the problem is that the bottle can contain usual running water from the kitchen tap:(. so if you are afraid - just boill it.
anyway, running water in Krasnoyarsk is known to be very good and pure. but I still always boil it... |

How about radiation levels in the water? I have heard a few things about possible contamination, does anyone know if this is true?

I've never seen or sampled a three-eyed fish from the yenisei. I think someone you've talked to is running off at the mouth perpetuating some sort of urban myth. IIRC, Krasnoyarsk -26 handles nuke waste, but the river runs to it, not the other way around.
I can't think of any stop from there to Dudinka that has a nuke facility. Also, the Environmentalist groups would have spacced out long ago.
Maybe your friend is thinking of the nitrocellulose factory on the shores of Lake Baikal???
