| Yes you can do it - it's easy and cheap. You should ship it by freight and fly there. I just flew my bike to Baraul and rode it from there to Irkutsk - great trip. About 80% of the road was paved; 20% unpaved but manageable. |

Yes, it's quite easy to do: you should go first to the train station your train departs from (if you're going to Irkutsk, it's Yaroslavsky railway station in Moscow, metro Komsomolskaya, circle line). You need to find the freight department there and arrange that you bring the motorbike on a specified date. The cost of transportation to Irkutsk will be about 7R / kilo, so if your motorbike weighs, say, 200 kg, it should cost about $50 to get it delivered to Irkutsk. However, really, they might add some extras on top, so I would count on something like $150 US, which is still not too much for a 5000 km way... There's a company that specializes in trans-siberian freight transportation, i found them on the internet and don't know anybody who used them, but you can try contacting them to see how much it would cost: http://www.baikalsr.ru/
If you send something by plane, it will cost you about $1 per kilo (to Irkutsk). So, if your motorbike weighs 200 kg, it will cost $200 one way. It is provided by a reputable company EastLine (they own Domodedovo airport, so they are reliable), and you can contact them at logistic@eastline.ru |
