Don't know if you know this site (parts of it look very similar to this one!), but www.trainline.ru allows you to book all your train tickets online for standard price (no nasty mark-ups by $100 a ticket) and they deliver worldwide. It's in English or Russian and has every major stop you could want. It also has international tickets.
I just got tickets for Beijing to Ulan Bator and am waiting on confirmation. Fingers crossed it works out!
Also, for other people organising their trip individually and not getting a package tour, Hostel Tramp (same booking agency as this site) are really helpful in sorting your train tickets. Visit them at www.hostelling.ru
or email them at info@hostelling.ru.
Planning this trip has been somewhat of a nightmare so hopefully this will come in useful for others. |

Just a note that Hostel Tramp is not associated with this site, although it is true that they provide a range of services.

does anyone know if the prices for trans-sib journeys on www.trainline.ru are the same as those you pay by buying directly form the train station in moscow? They seem a little higher than what i have seen quoted previously, and was intending to buy mine in moscow on arrival, but if the prices are the same then this would be easier. Any ideas??
Thanks, Ben |

The prices in trainline.ru online system do not seem to be correct at the moment, the site is still in the process of development.
The price which they will quote in the confirmation e-mail is final. It will surely be higher than what you get at the station, as they need to pay taxes, pay to the operator, and the Russian railways don't pay any commission. So, there's about $20 US markup on the price of the ticket. If you do not feel like paying it, then an option is to get a ticket at the train station. |
