Hi everybody,
I am heading over to Russia in 2 months with my girlfriend to tech English at Ivanovo state university for 6 months. I am wondering if anyone has been there and has any tips or knows some cool things to see and do in the area.
Primarily however i am wondering about internet services in Ivanovo or the whole of Russia. What is he best way for me to get my laptop connected. I have looked on the net heaps and found some stuff but nothiing very specific. Any help??
I have another query- excuse this if it is ill-informed but what happens when I try to write emails to Australia from a Russian keyboard and what about my tax return and other such official things that I will be completing from Russia. My concern is the different letters and syntax etc. This is the main reason why I want my laptop hooked up so there is an English keyboard and formatting etc.
Any help would be awesome!!

You will have no problem obtaining internet access in a university setting. You'll easily be able to use your laptop.

A lot of Russian keyboards are already dual language - you switch the keyboard layout in the control panel.

If you take your laptop you may need to download Microsoft's cyrillic language support - free - then you can also switch layouts to write in Russian.

The keyboard layout here is not the same as standard Russian, it's a Russified version of QWERTY, but much easier for Westerners.

If you have a Mac, there are similar free keyboard utilities such as Cyrillix:

you can also buy english-russian keyboard stickers from computer shops. you are more likely to find english-only rather than russian-only keyboards esp. if they are imported.
